When John Delaney saw anti-police slogans painted all over memorials at a park dedicated to two police officers killed while on duty, the retired police sergeant said he just started crying.
Delaney, who said he visits the park named in honor of Michael Schiavina and Alain Beauregard often, said he was horrified to see ACAB sprayed in red on the entrance sign the park that bears the name of the two men and again on a bench and FTP across a stone monument that bears plaques honoring the two men when he visited the park on North Branch Parkway Sunday. ACAB is an acronym that stands for All Cops are Bastards and FTP stands for (obscenity) the Police.
This was a serene place and this had to be done by a horrible character who hates police, Delaney said. Someone is making a political statement over two fallen heroes.
Doris Beauregard-Shecrallah, the widow of Alain Beauregard said she was equally devastated when Delaney called her to tell her about the graffiti.
Im still crying about it, she said. We have to find a way to solve this anger, this madness. What are we doing to our world? What are we teaching our kids?
She called for the community to unite and asked people to pray for the people who sprayed the graffiti on the monuments.
