NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a recent interview that players kneeling protests against racial injustice during the national anthem are not about the flag," adding that he wishes the league listened to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sooner when it came to the matter.
Goodell made the comments in an interview with former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho on his YouTube series "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man," that went live on Sunday.
In the interview, Acho pressed the commissioner about a statement he made in early June apologizing for the leagues past handling of the kneeling protest movement that was started by Kaepernick during the 2016 season to protest racism and police brutality.
At the time, Goodell said the league admitted that it was wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and [encourages] all to speak out and peacefully protest and said the league believed that Black lives matter.
The apology, which many critics noted did not mention Kaepernick by name, came amid nationwide protests against racial injustice and police use of force following the police killing of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who died in Minneapolis in late May after a white police officer was recorded kneeling on his neck during an arrest for more than eight minutes.
During the interview on Sunday, Acho addressed Goodells past apology and its nonmention of Kaepernick, whom he noted was the catalyst behind the protest movement for the league, while also asking, If you were to publicly express your remorse, apologize to Kaepernick what would you say?

Just shoot me; or Goodell.
Anything to make it stop.
‘I wish we had listened earlier’
The league would have died earlier.
Wish I had abandoned the NFL sooner.
LOL...the putz doesn’t even get it.
Keep smooching that butt Goodell. It will make the National Felons League no more palatable to the average viewer.
CC
Goodell is an idiot.
OT
Just saw a Blacks Live Matter commercial
At the end, they say “We are the ones we’ve been looking for”
That pretty much solidifies my long-held opinion that BLM was created launched directly from the Oval Office
Kaepernick to Goodell: “I wish we had rioted earlier.”
Once again reaffirming this family’s correct decision to forego ALL team sports in the USA. Been a sports fan for decades. Games pale into insignificance when compared to our love and respect of country and our Constitution.
They are dead to me is such a cliche. But, under the current circumstances, it is so very accurate.
Will the NFL owners never get rid of this jerk?!
He can’t wait to finish off the destruction of football. The left in general hated it with all that patriotism.
what a cuck simp
The most hated NFL commissioner in the history of the game.
What a pathetic cuck.
Goodell is driving the NFL into the ground or off the cliff. Good(ell) riddence.
Roger. Roger...89% of the former fans are not impressed with your bending over backwards to impress a bunch of America Haters. Just do your job. There is no ‘Church of Kaepernick’ to be afraid of. You seem to think there is one.
There is a marked difference between the abstract statement “black lives matter” that advocates for blacks to have an equal and fair shake in both the justice system and in life, and the anti-cop advocacy of the Marxist BLM activists who used Kaepernick as a tool through his Marxist girlfriend. Kaepernick kneeling was the camel’s nose under the tent for a leftist political takeover of the NFL and everyone rightly saw it as just that at the time. It doesn’t mean that that the NFL should apologize to him for seeing through his charade just because his cover story is valid.
Goodell should call Kaepernick out on those pig socks he was wearing, call him out on his shifting values, and affirm that the NFL believes that everyone should play by the same set of rules and be held to the same standard, on the field and in society. There are bad cops out there, and bad policies that impact minorities and certain economic classes disproportionately, but just like the NFL reviews it’s rules each year, society has to fix the bad to level the playing field, not throw out all of the rules. Dirty cops are like dirty refs: don’t tolerate them and you don’t protect them and they won’t be a factor. So many better ways of handling things than what Goodell has and is going.
Fifty million a year, a private jet, and for what? This retromingent jackass is a disgrace to humanity, never mind the league.
