As a woman, some of us end up making wrong choices. I made one, and got rid of it back in 1979, but it took me time to get used to the idea of being alone. I had to grow as a person, and realize that I didn't need to have someone, or be married to be happy. Back then, I actually felt like the guy was doing me a favor in marrying me. Poor self-image I guess. Of course I was a lot younger then, but I got rid of the philanderer, raised my two sons on my own, went to college, had a decent career, been retired since 2003, and I never looked back. Never got married again, and have lived alone for many years. The child support ended when the boys turned 18, and we basically never heard from him again. My sons are 53 and 49 now, and have no desire to see or hear from their father. He could be dead for all we know. And the best part is, that none of care if he is.
