Police arrest 5 during RNC protests in Charlotte

Police have arrested five people in Charlotte, North Carolina, where protesters demonstrated against the Republican National Convention for a second night.

The arrests happened late Saturday after a group of demonstrators left a park and began to peacefully march throughout uptown Charlotte, police said in a statement Sunday.

Police used pepper spray after a demonstrator picked up a steel pipe that was being used for perimeter security fencing and aggressively approached officers, police said.

One person was charged with possession of a weapon at a protest, when police seized a firearm after being alerted that a demonstrator riding a bicycle had a gun, authorities said.

Officers blocked off a street for safety when pepper spray was used on a demonstrator who assaulted an officer at about 11 p.m., police said. Three more people were arrested for assaulting officers and refusing to obey lawful orders, authorities said.

Glad they were peaceful. Hate to see a violent march.

In what world does the expression "peacefully march" fit in with assaulting officers, picking up a steel pipe and aggressively approaching officers, threatening officers, etc.?
The Orwellian language these reporters use is amazing in their brazen audacity. I imagine this open mendacity must still work with at least some of their audience or they would have stopped using it already.

Gaslighting agitprop from the Left.

Same as when Joe BiteMe and other falsely claim that Donald Trump praised neoazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville.

Better get the North Carolina National Guard on the streets of Charlotte.

This is only the opening act.

Since the city straddles both NC and SC, need to get both Nat. Guard on the streets. I can see it now the “peaceful protestors” run across the border where NC Nat Guard can not legally be. SO the “protestors” go free.

I have a BETTER idea: Offer 1/3 of the SCSP to Charlotte (if the Governor of NC needs them) & ACTIVATE the independent State Constables of SC & send them to the NC/SC border to seal the border against incursions by rioters/thugs/assorted criminals.

Then call-up the both the NCARNG & the State Militia of NC & send them to Mecklenburg County to deal with the increasing disorder.
(Fwiw, I have family in Spartanburg County & I know how the majority of SC folk think.)

To All: The Carolinas are NOT the leftist states of CA, OR or WA. - The GOOD people of NC & SC do NOT want the thugs & terrorists to be “turned loose” to tear-up Charlotte and/or the border communities of SC, as they have done in the cities of the Left Coast.

I will be surprised if the Charlotte mayor or the Governor (Dem) call for the National Guard.

Ummm ...

You seem to be a bit “geographically challenged”. The center of Charlotte, at its closest point, is some 12 miles from South Carolina. Hardly “straddling” the border, and certainly not within reasonable range of someone running to avoid Charlotte police, or National Guard (should the Governor deploy them).

Ummm...

You seem to have your facts wrong... the entire city limits of Charlotte does straddle both states. So you might want to one visit Charlotte, like I have dozens of times and lived in the area, or two look at a map sometime.

Might want to do more research before spouting off trying to correct someone who has actually visited and lived in that area.

I live in Charlotte. About 11 miles due south of the city center - and about 4 miles north of the border with South Carolina.

The RNC is being held “uptown”, which, as I said, is quite a ways from South Carolina. You said the protesters would just need to “run across the border” to avoid the NC National Guard. I merely pointed out that those protesters would have to run a half-marathon to reach the border. Those soy-boys and granola-girls would be out of breath, and out of options, before they reached Dilworth, let alone SC.

Whatever dude.... you still don’t get it do you..

Have you ever heard of a car? Guess not because according to you they walked to Charlotte. But it is funny how you seemed to think, even though you lived there, that the city did NOT straddle two states. Funny how that worked out. Last time you said 12 miles. Now you are saying 16 miles. So which is it 16 or 12 miles? Something stinks like BS. To take the “run over the border” literally shows how incompetent you are. Maybe we should only be looking for “peaceful protestors” too who carry peaceful assault weapons and only light peaceful commercial grade fireworks and throw peaceful bags of feces. Stupidity runs rampant not just amongst the left.

I’m not the one that said they’d “run” across the border, you did. And Charlotte does NOT “straddle” the border - it abuts South Carolina. Charlotte and Mecklenburg County end at the State line. When you cross the border, you’re in York County & Ft. Mill if you head south on I-77; or Indian Land & Lancaster County if you head south on US-521. There is NO part of Charlotte that is within South Carolina. None.

The Antifa twerps living in their Moms’ basements are in Dilworth, Elizabeth, Myers Park & Davidson. Or they’ll travel here from Boone (App State), Chapel Hill (UNC), or Raleigh/Durham (Duke & NC State) - but still NC, not SC. The BLM crowd will walk to uptown from the west-side or NoDa, or take the light rail or bus. Thing is, there aren’t a lot of libs that are going to travel from SC relative to the number coming from within NC.
