Guidelines for discussions about current local and national topics [NextDoor has declared alliance with the enemy]

Given the current environment and interest in the issue of racial inequality, we want to provide clarification on our existing guideline regarding the discussion of local and national topics/events. Here is a quick summary regarding where on Nextdoor you can discuss certain topics.

** Conversations related to racial inequality and Black lives matter are allowed on Nextdoor.

Allowed in the main feed:

- Announcements or discussions of local events or events that you have attended or plan to attend.
- Discussion of local law enforcement’s record or policies. [permission for doxing]
- Discussion of how these issues affect or have affected you or people you know.
- Discussions of steps people in the community can take to become involved, including fundraising campaigns or petitions for local causes.
- Links to websites or resources that are relevant to the discussion, and you think your neighbors may benefit from.

Nextdoor is a facebook type app that is intended to keep neighbors (also neighboring neighborhoods) in contact with each other. It is intended to be social, respectful and friendly.

I recently posted that I am a precinct chairman and a contact e-mail. I received many thank you responses. One of the respondents signed with Trump 2020. I saw no problem with this but two individual did and objected. A third individual, apparently a moderator in one of the neighborhoods piped in about keeping politics out of things. I defended both my original post which clearly conformed with the guidelines and the respondent who signed Trump 2020. It seems to have faded out now and Nextdoor did not really get involved.

It is easy to set up a group discussion for any particular topic so if I want to discus a political issue I can.

At this point I have to say Nextdoor is acting responsibly and I have no complaint with them. In an environment like this it is natural for some people to think they decide what is okay or not and some people to think they are in charge of everything. If posts remain respectful, things seem to work out.

In light of how bad twitter, facebook, etc. have become I must say, I have not a single complaint about Nextdoor. I think they are trying to do the right thing regardless of how difficult it is.

“Our Guidelines prohibit posts and replies that discriminate against, attack, insult, shame, bully, or belittle others.”

What fun is that? How else can you deal with democrats?

The guidelines explicitly state that police policy may be openly discussed, which means attacked. And by extention, police may be attacked.

The nextdoor policy is that if you are discussing local police issues, that can be done in the general forum. If you are talking about state or national level issues, you must form a group, titled with the subject of the group and people who want to talk about that issue go to the group. Nextdoor doesn't moderate or censor unless behaviour becomes nasty or disrespectful. It seems like a very good setup to me.

I use Nextdoor but live in a conservative area of the Kalifornia (foothills) where we still outnumber the nut jobs.

Most Leftist garbage posted here usually gets smacked down by other readers .... courteously.

The site is useful on neighborhood crime, homeless issues, fire info, neighbors in need of help, lost pets etc

Be helpful, not hurtful

We want all neighbors to feel welcome, safe, and respected on Nextdoor. When conversations turn disagreeable, everyone on Nextdoor suffers.

How is this different from the original Twilight Zone episode, "It's A Good Life" where everyone is required to have happy thoughts or else?

It's a Good Life (The Twilight Zone)

You aren’t very astute about NextDoor, then. They frequently censor conserative positions and encourage obscene, threatening leftist postings. Check out their reviews on the app store and you’ll get an eyeful.

Are everyone's ears clogged with wax?!!! THIS is what NextDoor said they would allow, as an exception to their general rule on political topics that are not local:

"** Conversations related to racial inequality and Black lives matter are allowed on Nextdoor."

They are BLM mouthpieces.

Sometimes. I live in the Dallas area. There were verbal attacks on police but also support for the law enforcement sales tax renewal. I’ve seen stuff on selling blue lives matter flags and reports of people’s Trump signs stolen.

And we’re in a fairly conservative area.

Yes you can do it, but expect liberals to flag it or complain.

This of it as a hyperlocal Facebook, dominated by the Karens of the local HOA.

Liberals say they are love, kind, empathy. It makes everyone else guilty of hate speech, cruelty, disrespect.

This is how liberals’ branding makes conservative opinions a violation of “Trust and respect” policies.

Someone in my book club cited that very episode. We were reading Atlas Shrugged and discussing it today.

Liberals deny their politics ARE politics, while saying everyone has to keep their politics or worldview to themselves.

They really should rename themselves KarenCentral.com. Aside from an occasional landscaper or handyman recommendation, the site is nothing but an endless parade of "My God! I just went to Walgreens on Main Street and nobody was even wearing a mask!!!" anecdotes.

Quit NexrDoor when they wouldn’t let me look at neighborhood posts without agreeing to their rules for use.
