Shame doesn’t really work in United States culture—in some Asian cultures it does. I tried it ion my kids once: “your bad grades will bring shame to our family!” And they just laughed at me. We are too independent for that.

well, we are rapidly finding out that we as a society are not very independent at all; shaming and guilting have been on full display in grocery stores since April, and is reaching a boiling point even as we speak...

Shaming people doesn’t seem to work against Democrats, I’ll grant you that, but I see lots of people trying to shame conservatives quite frequently, and I think it’s working.
