That story doesn’t surprise me at all. Sadly.

Manhattan NYC tends towards ‘’whole food’’ type stores where the mostly upscale hipsters are encouraged to bring their own cloth bags or other means of carrying their purchases home. No plastic as they’re ‘’saving the planet’’.

Another grocer, who asked that his name be withheld for fear of being targeted by criminals, blames a combination of factors for crime he sees inside and outside his stores — COVID-19, unemployment, anti-police brutality protests and bail reform.

This guy is a fool to talk to this reporter at all. Since the next sentence was designed to negate his point of view, I wouldn't put it past the reporter to leak the grocer's name to the criminals he fears.

You need (well, a year or two before this mess started up) have gone for a couple of days to NY City and just walked around. Things don’t function or relate to normal places in the rest of the US.

I always had this image of the subway system (I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe and seen first-class subways). Then I finally did the NY trip around eight years ago. My image went ‘south’, and I just started laughing. You get off a subway car and make your way to the ground-level....then pull out sanitizer to get the grit off you.

Cuomo outlawed plastic bags in March 2020.
Then brought them back during covid.

It's exactly not wearing a mask:

But it isn’t just shoplifters Goico and others have to contend with.

Goico said he’s also at a complete loss over what to do with people coming into his store refusing to wear masks, even after offering them to customers free of charge. Police stopped enforcing social-distancing and mask-wearing requirements in May.

“We don’t know how to deal with that,” Goico said. “It’s very hard for us to police that.”

He said many of the people who don’t mask up appear to be mentally ill.

Before this whole mess people would get coffee and bagel at Starbucks or Dunkin. The big companies all have cafeterias for breakfast, lunch. Or you go to a deli for lunch. Or take clients out for lunch. Dinner out or takeout. Apts are small. They don’t cook.

Same story in the affluent Seattle suburbs, which are 95% white and Asian.

Store Security at QFC calls the cops, but QFC will not touch Black shoplifters, and they follow Black thieves - at a safe distance - only to the edge of the store property line.

About 6 months ago at Safeway, a Hispanic man tried to steal a big plastic jug of vodka. Security followed him to the door saying, “Drop it. Drop it.”

At the door, two Security guys blocked his way, moving left and right in tandem with the perp. Apparently, if the perp touches the Security guys, the crime elevates to an aggravated felony. The perp finally dropped the vodka, Security stepped aside, and the perp just walked away.

Same Safeway store, about a month ago, a Black guy no one recognized walked in and punched a white female cashier in the face, then just walked out. I had my back turned in the self-check out area, and when people started shouting the perp was already out the door.

According to the cashier, the Black guy said, “You know what it feels like to be afraid, bitch?” before he punched her.

They’re blaming it on the corona virus right out of the gate when the blame should rightly be laid at the feet of deblasio.

What a crock of BS.

The “justice reform” that NY passed is DIRECTLY responsible for the “uptick” in crime they are seeing.

This story seems to suggest this is the fault of the NYPD.

No. It’s the fault of the leftist incompetent morons you people in NYC elected who have, over decades, enabled a culture of entitlement and theft (grocery stores being a small example of such theft).

As another poster said (paraphrasing) - elect leftists, deal with the suck. What did they think would happen? As the population gets dumbed down over generations, they elect sparkly fools who support nonsensical policies, and wonder why Brawndo doesn’t make plants grow.

Steven Seagall needs to move back to the Big Apple and shop at the little groceries, he’ll take care of that shit. I’ve seen him do it, more than once.

Do you shop everyday? When I lived in Berlin I would stop at the store just about everyday. Got used to it.
