House Democrats push forward with $25B Post Office bill, GOP dismisses rare Saturday vote as a 'joke'

The House of Representatives kicked off heated debate Saturday morning over a $25 billion funding bill for the United States Postal Service (USPS) that Democrats say is needed to prevent President Trump from trying to "destroy" the Post Office before the 2020 mail-in election, while Republicans dismissed this "conspiracy theory" and blasted Democrats for staging a purely political vote between two presidential conventions.

"I am again on the floor of the House of Representatives watching a cartoon," said Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark. "About the only outcome this debate is going to have today is one of entertainment value -- nothing substantive."

Democrats, however, framed the rare Saturday session as a "five-alarm fire" after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy started operational and equipment changes that have slowed down mail delivery for their constituents. Meanwhile, Trump continues to attack mail-in voting in advance of an election that will rely increasingly on ballots sent through the Post Office due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The postal service needs to go to three days a week delivery to cut costs.

Amazon can hire the laid off drivers.

Post offices could be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays to cut costs.

It's not a joke. It's a campaign ad in the making.

...that Democrats say is needed to prevent President Trump from trying to "destroy" the Post Office before the 2020 mail-in election...

This is an implicit admission that the USPS cannot handle bulk mail voting as it currently stands.

I'm sure the "news" media will ignore this. The question is: who are the Dems paying off to get this fraudulent vote-by-mail done?

But then how will I get my daily pile of junk mail that goes straight to the trash?

“I am again on the floor of the House of Representatives watching a cartoon”

Exactly, American hating scumbag DemonRats could ask for a trillion dollars. And if the got it...it would be months....years before any significant money would be spent to increase efficiencies. Of course that would never happen anyway. This is all about politics and bail outs. Fluck you Pelosi, you are beyond evil.

Agree....They farm out so much of their business. Time to get a new plan.

If Amazon is making money, the Post Office should be able to make money.

WTF Did they promise the post office money to throw the election in favor of demon- rats? This obsession with the post office is weird.

It is, isn’t it? It’s almost like a commandment was delivered to them from on high oh, and they have no choice but to obey, in lockstep. 25 billion is about $150 for every ballot delivered, as I figure it.

The Post Office General clearly stated he does not need the money in order to cover the election period....that he has everything he needs.

Fox News perpetuates the fantasy that mail delivery has slowed down. They failed to use the word ‘allegedly’.

well rather than Russia they’re going to blame the Post Office. Be prepared for a recount one way or another....

Fox fails to report that the PO General addressed that in detail...as he made the changes to get the front and back end trucks on schedule and aligned, which were a mess when he arrived two months ago.
