Heads up Gulf of Mexico coastal dwellers. Unusual situation with two tropical storm systems taking aim at the Gulf of Mexico simultaneously. Could make for some interesting times next week. Perhaps we'll witness the Fujiwhara Effect? Stay tuned...

These will be a good excuse for the media to ignore the GOP convention.

I hope someone in the WH is at least aware of the potential situation of two storms hitting in the same time frame.

These will be a good excuse for the media to ignore the GOP convention. This is expected when conventions are held during the active portion of hurricane season. The 2012 RNC convention in Tampa was interrupted by Hurricane Isaac. Jeb Bush did not attend the 2004 RNC in New York City while his brother was nominated for a 2nd term because of the FL parade hurricanes. There are other examples.

We live in the Texas Hill Country & we are in desperate need of rain. Marco looks like our best shot.
I’m praying he takes a trip here.
To: texanyankee
IIRC, Hurricane Hanna did not provide needed rain for your area, as the storm dipped down into Mexico.

Perhaps we'll witness the Fujiwhara Effect? In an area as small as the Gulf of Mexico the odds are pretty good. No doubt meteorologists all over the world will be watching.

You’re correct. We live about 60 miles west of Austin. We only got 0.10” out of Hanna.

The Fujiwara was displayed on one of the models earlier this week. I think it was the GFS-parallel. Now the models are indicating a turn to the west for Marco. Not a direct hit on Houston but a landfall between Corpus and Palacios perhaps.

I understand your feelings. When you live in SE Texas you have too much bad history with tropical storms & hurricanes.
I lived & worked in Liberty county from ‘79 to ‘86.
We had that tropical storm Claudette dump 20 inches on us and flooded everything.
Then there was Alicia.....
But once I retired & settled in the Hill Country where my kin are from you have a different perspective.
To: texanyankee
:P That storm that just blew through wasn’t half bad. Hell of a light show closer to Austin.
