Virginia Health Commissioner says he’ll mandate a COVID-19 vaccine

State Health Commissioner Dr. Norman Oliver told 8News on Friday that he plans to mandate coronavirus vaccinations for Virginians once one is made available to the public.

Virginia state law gives the Commissioner of Health the authority to mandate immediate immunizations during a public health crisis if a vaccine is available. Health officials say an immunization could be released as early as 2021.

Dr. Oliver says that, as long as he is still the Health Commissioner, he intends to mandate the coronavirus vaccine.

“It is killing people now, we don’t have a treatment for it and if we develop a vaccine that can prevent it from spreading in the community we will save hundreds and hundreds of lives,” Oliver said.

Under state law, only people with a medical exemption could refuse the mandate.

Assuming advances in treatments and a big drop in cases a court would probably accept a challenge.

Yes and no. I know that there is a drum beat that these are being “rushed” but remember that was an awful lot of research done with SARS and MERS, of which this is a biological analogue. So I think that the R&D is actually much further down the road than most people think hearing “novel” corona virus.

I think we have decades and decades of research on vaccines and overall long term effects. We “rush” a flu vaccine every year, and yet don’t ask these questions, so I think the science behind it is actually far more developed than most people think.

I also think that the mRNA vaccine (contrary to the biology ignorance of a certain poster) is actually a very well though out theory. utilizing RNA coding to promote antibody synthesis is probably more reliable than an antigenic challenge — and I think it probably will accelerate T-Cell immunity which is key.

There was a paper published just today that the IgG antibodies only last 60 - 90 days and there is a very short window to catch them with testing. The sweet spot is about 3 - 5 weeks after infection. After this, the antibodies fade and T-cell immunity kicks in. The Oxford study demonstrated both IgG and T-cell stimulation in phase two, so I think this is the vaccine I would choose.

I think CoVID will likely stimulate a new golden age in virology and immunology which will be the hope at the bottom of this Pandora box. However, I suspect there will always be the witch hunters out there who will deride and deny science, much to their own detriment.

I absolutely do not support mandatory vaccination — autonomy is one of the six pillars of medical ethics. however, when people promote abject BS to advance an illogical and false narrative, it deserves to be pointed out.

I would consider getting a CCP virus vaccine, only after it has been fully studied about the long-term effects and other aspects of it, no way in hell am I getting a vaccine that has been brushed through the entire process in months rather than years.

The legal attack would be on the meaning of : “an epidemic of any disease of public health importance “. Assuming that is debatable at the time, which I do assume.
