A tweet from the FBI referencing a document long associated with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories was met with an angry blowback on social media Wednesday.
The official FBI Records Vault tweeted without context “Protocols of Learned Elders of Zion” with a link to related FBI records.
“The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” is an infamous text from the early 20th century that falsely describes a Jewish plot to control the world.

I remember someone posting it to a listserv in the late 1990’s with a “See, this happening today”. Someone posted this story to a FB group yesterday with the same message. It was written in such a way that some idiot will always swear it is happening right now.

The FBI tweets out documents that have been declassified via FOIA requests and that’s what happened here. But they should have framed it in this case.
I believe its origin was from Czarist secret police - Okhrana operations.

They probably figured people were smart enough to realize this was a link to a historical document and not an endorsement of it’s contents. Judging from the comments on this thread that may have been an incorrect assumption.
