This is not new. Its known as the SAA, South Atlantic Anomaly, and has been documented for decades. For spacecraft in low Earth orbit, it has been associated with spacecraft anomalies like computer single event upsets because the theory would say that more space radiation can sneak through the magnetic belts here, and proton or electron strikes can mess with micro circuits or memory bits.
Not only not new but recent! Known as ASS, Alien, Stupid Snake, it occupied the White house/hut from early 2009 to the beginning of 2017. Eight years of golf and smokin’ dope.
The alien still lives in DC attempting to continue his mischief running the DEEP STATE.

Yup, know it well. The whipping boy of many failure investigations. Best bet, if its in LEO, shut it down when over the SAA. Either that or pay lots of extra bucks to harden the asset.
More space radiation also means more cloud cover which means cooling. As Ned Stark would say, “Winter is Coming !”.
