An important fact left out of the summary was that this was tried in a juvenile court. The rules and punishments can be quite different. Not saying it’s right, but that’s how it is. Now why the ‘teens’ weren’t charged as adults, I don’t know. It may have been prosecutor discretion or it may have been state law.
Nearly always, juvenile trials are carried out in secret, the press is not allowed, and the names and records of the offenders are also kept secret. Race has nothing to do with it.
Many years ago, I worked at a juvenile prison and the reality of the juvenile justice system boggles the mind. All sorts of teen criminals, murderers, rapists, etc. are released on their 18th birthday with a ‘clean’ records.
You may remember Ferguson’s ‘Gentile Giant’, Michael Brown. There were rumors of his having an extensive juvenile record. Locals and local cops might be well aware of it, but the law forbids anyone saying anything about it.
“These animals are too violent and unpredictable.”
They are called feral pavement apes for a reason.
What did he think? They’re rich white kids?
I went to high school with John Weed. We called him Jay. Einstein High School Kensington Maryland. He was such a nice guy. Did not deserve this. He got sucker-punched at the fair and then one of the teens spit on him. In front of his family.
The judge had to approve them being tried as adults. She refused.
Six months ago, to the day:

It was unprovoked murder.
This is insane.
Incompatibility + Proximity = Problems.

Situations like this just scream out for revenge. I doubt that anyone would bat an eye if some gang bangers capped them just like any other gang shooting. About a thousand dollars per head would be about right. If they did a good job, then after a pause of six months they could get double the amount to do the judge. With a bonus if they left a couple of bags of crack on her.

Maybe the third serious crime in, they might get some time and it is likely that they’ll spend much of their adult lives at the greybar hotel.
Somtimes you have to do what you have to do and can control. There’s more ways to skin a cat so to speak.
An acquaintence made her assailant ‘pay’ for 8 yrs. by bringing him back into the courts over and over and over again on trivial matters......Costing the guy thousands in Attorney fees and travel expenses and time. Either way she was going to make him pay because he was a powerful man in the community and guilty of his crime he was able to wiggle out of.
