That article partially blames the cameras taking the footage while the pilots themselves saw these things looking out of their cockpits.

The points that article makes about the camera artifacts are
valid, and those of us interested in such things figured
those things out long, long ago.
The bottom line is that if they are not ours, it is a
national security issue. All of the published information
has yet to prove conclusively that they are performing
completely outside of our capabilities, other than unproven
statements implying speeds, or G forces beyond ours.
(It’s not been actually proven to the public that these
objects have demonstrated such capabilities. We haven’t been
shown videos that prove that.)
There also ought to be a whole lot more video than we’ve
seen, from aircraft, satellites, Doppler and other types
of Radar, etc.
If they are ours, fine. Cute. Very cool, even.
If not, this is hardly an issue that can be ignored.
I think they are ours. I hope they are not the CIA’s.
(Because if they are the CIA’s, we maybe can’t really
consider them ours, unless the CIA is actually completely
ours, these days.)
