The Austin City Council voted unanimously on Thursday in favor of a new city budget that sees an estimated $150 million in planned cuts to the Austin Police Department. About $20 million will be immediately removed from the department’s funding, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The vote took place after the city council listen to hours of public testimony on Wednesday, which saw many speakers in favor of cutting the police budget.

The cuts that will take place immediately will include:

"Cutting three upcoming cadet classes, slashing overtime costs by nearly $3 million, pulling more than $3 million from commodities and contractuals, $1 million from records management and More than $220,000 combined from license plate readers and vacancies to the department’s mounted patrol.

"That money will be redirected instead to a wide variety of community programs and city departments, including Austin-Travis County EMS for COVID-19 response, mental health response, violence prevention and a family violence shelter and protection and victim services."

And, I’m expecting a return on my taxes supporting schools since most of them have been sitting abandoned since March. And we have no kids or grandkids going to any of them anyway. Must be part of the white privilege thing I keep hearing about.

Lived in Austin from the 70s to 2000. Keep Austin Weird was always the mantra, but it was originally just a bunch of laid back "live and let live" people. Very low crime rate if you didn't count possession of marijuana.

When they decided to become "silicon hills" and the California nazis moved in, I left. Last time I was downtown, it was nothing but construction, morons with top knots and Bernie signs.

How many Austinites does it take to change a light bulb?

Seven. One to change the buib and six to talk about how great things were in the sixties.

...take a second to read this note.......the greater ATX (Austin TX for “those in the know...”) area has some very nice suburban areas....we live in one of them and it is a very nice place to live...we have been here for almost 6 years and have been to downtown ATX just ONCE in that time....everything we need or want is available in our suburb....it is very conservative and that suits us just fine...!!

Democrats need the resulting violence and chaos to establish the brutal Stalinist police state they so deeply crave.

There is no lower form of evil scum than a Democrat.

....”I guess those Austin cops thought that if they [knelt], their budget would be left intact.”...not sure if that is the case or not....why in the world would they have done this, I have no clue....the ATX police force knew it was under the gun for some time...just a shame...reduce the ATX police force as untold thousands of new residents will be coming to the area soon with some major companies’ expansions in the works...

He gave his life to become a meme.

Garrett Foster to St. Peter: "Was I a good commie?"

St. Peter: "No, but now you are."

City of Austin did back flips to circumvent state Civil Service Laws requiring competitive testing and hire the "right" people, if you get my drift.

They started doing that over twenty years ago, so the whole force is pretty much composed of diversity hires, now.

Kalifornia fags. Destroyed Colorado and now it's Texas. It's almost enough to make one worry about the future.

Look into Frisco, about 30 minutes north of Dallas.
