CHICAGOTerry Te pulled gleaming trays of wedding and engagement rings from a safe on Tuesday morning and arranged them in the glass cases of his jewelry shop that had been the site of chaos just the day before.
Mr. Te, 36 years old, got a call around 3:15 a.m. Monday that people were trying to break into the building that houses his store, Imperial Jewelry, along Chicagos downtown strip known as Jewelers Row. He grabbed his gun and bulletproof vest and rushed downtown.
What he saw when he got there was a scene that played out along some of the citys toniest neighborhoods: looters breaking windows, stealing merchandise and outmanned police trying to chase them away.
Mr. Te saved his inventory and cleaned up. He said he may face looting again. Im almost ready to move to find a much quieter location in a less violent city, he said. Its basically a lawless land.
The looting that began late Sunday and continued into Monday morning marks the second time the city has been hit in recent months. After George Floyd was killed in May while in Minneapolis police custody, widespread unrest left Chicagos Magnificent Mile, a strip of high-end stores north of downtown that has long been a showpiece of the city, and other neighborhoods boarded up.
This weekend, caravans of looters responded to calls on social media, hitting stores in a wide swath of the city, following the shooting by police of a 20-year-old man who officers say fired on them first.
Police Superintendent David Brown on Monday said commanders deployed 400 officers to combat the looting, but said that prosecutors and the courts had failed to make their first rounds of arrests in June stick, making looters feel there were no consequences for their actions.

Big Joe : Loot what , There is nothing to loot
“what I have is gone.
“Te pulled gleaming trays of wedding and engagement rings from a safe on Tuesday morning and arranged them in the glass cases of his jewelry shop that had been the site of chaos just the day before.”
The City and State is mandated with PROTECTING those businesses and should REIMBURSE these businesses.
They should SUE the city and the state.
This is ChiCongo, right? They've got some black DA that isn't doing her job, right? They're just turning criminals loose, right?
I'd say it's not just a feeling of no consequences. There are literally no consequences.
And the cops need to stop trying to chase them away. They need to shoot looters. Aim center mass. None of this, "he should'a shot my baby in the leg, or sumpin!"
Should have pulled out cubic zirconia...Just as bright and really cheap...Then if you actually opened ,then put out the real stuff....I can’t believe with all this trouble around Chicago that anyone with Jewels would put out the real thing.....
It’s why there was a traditional way of handling looters...”Looters will be shot on sight”....
Wonder if small businesses across the U.S. can get together and compete against Amazon? Call it Anytown.com - Where Made in America is King!
They must wonder why they’ve paid so much in business licenses and taxes throughout the years.
Annnd now looters are king..Cops are no where in sight and your merchandise is history...Mr.Te said all they want is to know the store will be there in the morning......AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN..TAKE YOUR INSURANCE MONEY and GET OUT
The best picture I could find of Mr Te is that he appears to be of Asian origin. Now add to this the looters claiming their loot is reparations.
So the question is, did Mr Te’s ancestors hold slaves related to the particular person that raided his store?
I betcha the ones raiding is store were White, and kept the loot for themselves with Black people receiving nothing.
It’s all left wing commie propaganda trying to legitimize robbery.
“Should have pulled out cubic zirconia..”
All the jewelry was in the safe.
Portland DA just came out and stated he will not prosecute rioters and other crimes.
It can no longer be denied that Portland residents voted for this.
Now that they know they can go grab a new TV or a nice pair of Nikes anytime they want, and that even if police do feebly show up it is OK to just ignore them or even assault them, expect much more of this lawlessness to come.
should have left the good stuff at home...Cubic zirconia as far as the eye can see..Annnd worthless..Then the looters would be really pissed off.
These people are paying taxes for police protection. Where is it?
The citizens of Chicago are being robbed of their (currently) quite viable tax base by these terrorists.
When the businesses are driven out, either the residents pony up the confiscatory Leftist taxes, or the city swirls the drain.
Thats it.
Chicago and IL are not known for anyone special except maybe Abe Lincoln. But consider all the other names associated with that place - Capone, every governor who went to prison, etc. You can see that the obozos never wanted to move back to what he called his “hometown”...as I understand it he never lived there until he finished college but it was his “hometown.” Whatever! Did the man ever tell the truth about anything?
