NEW JERSEY -- President Donald Trump's proposed $400 a week unemployment compensation to succeed the expired $600 a week benefit, with the state paying for a quarter of it, is "just not workable," New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday.

This a day after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called the executive order "impossible," "laughable" and "just a chapter in the book of Washington COVID mismanagement."

Murphy addressed the president's executive order, which was signed at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, over the weekend during a news conference on the coronavirus outbreak.

The problem with New Jersey picking up what could be a multi-hundred million dollar tab is the state faces its own budget woes, the governor said...

Does he think the federal government is rolling in dough? It is his state, he is the governor and should find solutions for his citizens.

NJ broke as can be, former Goldman Sachs CEO governor has made it infinitely worse (and that’s saying something) but it’s Trump’s fault Murphy can’t afford to provide unemployment to people he made unemployed. But of course all the social programs remain fully funded and government workers are enjoying full paychecks, don’t doubt that.

Maybe it is different there in the land of toxic waste dumps.

In the states where I have had employees it was always the employers who paid into the unemployment fund. My contribution rate would change over the years depending on how much money they needed. It was higher in times of high unemployment.

My wife is still waiting for her disability/$600/wk unemployment benefit she was approved for all the way back to March in NJ. They haven’t paid a dime yet.

“Budget woes” is an understatement. It’s a disaster here and Murphy is the idiot at the helm of it.

3 more weeks and I’m out of this state forever. Can’t wait.

Fine, go ahead and explain it to your hard working, down and out labor force on just why you can make the extra $400 bucks a week not work. They won’t understand your inept leadership Governor.

The problem is the feds can just deficit spend their 75% but the states have to actually pay for their part.

Oh, two different threads now say that California and New Jersey can’t afford $100 a week for their people. Screw them.

So sad, too bad! The idiot Democrat run states that are dragging their feet on unemployment need to have some skin in the game regarding the costs they are running up... Needlessly.

They’re probably spending more than that on room service for the illegals and homeless they’re putting up in hotels.

Maybe, just maybe leeping everyone locked in out of fear isn’t a good idea?
Especially since they didn’t do that with Swine Flu, h1n1, or ebola.

I guess the new Rat tactic is for the Rat governors to say they can’t afford the additional costs of the new unemployment benifits. These people are annoying.
