Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other state officials called Friday for Leelanau County road commissioner Tom Eckerle to resign his office after he was heard using a racial slur during a public meeting.
The altercation arose on Tuesday after an official asked Eckerle, who was elected road commissioner in 2018, why he wasnt wearing a mask for the proceedings. In response, Eckerle used a racial slur and began criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement, claiming this whole thing is because of them [expletive] down in Detroit.

She needs to resign for being a tyrant.
“Eckerle admitted use of the slur and refused to apologize during an interview on local public radio in which he used the slur several more times.”
Did he use the n word or some other word that is now deemed to be racist? I don’t know what he said but I do like his style of not apologizing and then actually repeating what he said.
Commies?
She would not be a good national candidate but she is getting Fox News coverage on what would otherwise be a local story.
The guy was an idiot to give this club to Half Whit. She will be all over this. He will be gone by Tuesday and Whitmer will be right there standing strong against the institutional racism that plagues the state of Michigan.
Yes, she gets to look strong against racism on the national stage just as Biden is making his selection. Mr. Eckerle set it up for her.
“this whole thing is because of them [expletive] down in Detroit.
Almost right out of central casting, hmmm...
If an official slurs and no one was around to hear it and no one knows what word was slurred, did he make a slur?
Them THUGS.
It does not appear that he said thugs.
Was it Thugs? I dont watch Fox News anymore.
The first thing, is that the timing of such a remark, presuming the “n” word (can I still use that description?), is far too convenient, and I agree, this seems like some kind of set-up. No current member of the Republican party would utter such a disparaging remark and expect that the Republicans would not call for his resignation. If it is as presumed, the Republicans in Michigan, yeah both of them, need to issue a statement condemning his remarks, and indicate there’s no room in the party for such people, and demand his ouster.
Now that Gov. Whitmer has determined that a state of emergency exists, of systemic racism, does that mean she can take any and all measures to “correct” this racism? Like, preventing Republicans in her state from holding office?
If they can do anything, under the authority of a “public health crisis”, as with COVID19, they can do anything for any public health crisis. This will eventually lead to them declaring firearms as a “public health crisis”, and they will attempt to legislate behavior through a series of “public health crises.” The precedent has been set, and they will now expand the boundaries, for anything they wish. All it will take is some convenient “lawyer” double-speak, to somehow remotely attach a health crisis to said behavior. This is best exemplified by the Federal Government’s expansion of the commerce clause, to create utterly absurd definitions of the commerce clause.
Oh, he said the n-word. It was even on their zoom meeting. Repeated it again when talking with media. He needed to resign. There is no excuse for that in this day and age. I’m just sorry it had to be spread around the whole country before he would.
Thanks for posting; comments BUMP! Nice distractions, Wretched. We see you.
As a kid my family vacationed on Lake Leelanau for 4 years in a row.
There were NO blacks.
Not too many today.
Wonderful area. Real good corn.
The Governor is kind of niggardly in the number of small infractions here.
It takes away from the message of making this country better, and unfortunately Tom Eckerle is too myopic to see that. He may even actually be racist (most of the people called racist are actually not racist, but Eckerle may actually fit the bill).
Theres nothing to defend about what he said, and it is not just Democrats saying he should step down. He really should, although I doubt he will. He has already mentioned he has received more support than criticism, which tends to suggest he will stay. Which is really ironic because the party he is currently serving (by his speech) is the Democrats. He is a caricature of everything they claim about the Republican Party.
Anyway, back to regularly scheduled programming. Lets all just assume he said thugs, support his lack of apology and doubling down on what he said, and reminisce of vacations in places where they were no people of certain ethnicities. It sure as right helps President Trump.
