I spent 25 years working at a world famous hospital,a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The physicians and surgeons there were graduates of the world's great universities (undergrad and medical school)...Harvard,MIT,Cal Tech,Yale,Columbia,Princeton, etc, etc.

I found in working with these men and women that, almost universally, they were brilliant in their chosen field but didn't have the first clue what the world outside the hospital was about. They were awkward, single minded...almost robot-like.

I'll take a reasonably well educated and a reasonably well rounded individual over a genius any day!

“A man should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.

Specialization is for insects.”
