Does it feel like youre walking on eggshells lately when talking about politics? Youre not alone. A new national survey of 2,000 Americans I conducted at the Cato Institute finds that 62 percent of Americans say the political climate these days prevents them from saying what they believe because others might find it offensive. This share is up from 58 percent in 2017.
Notably, self-censorship is not a partisan issue. Majorities of Democrats (52 percent), Independents (59 percent), and Republicans (77 percent) all agree they have political views they are afraid to share.

Only until mail-in voting.
I had a similar conversation with an older relative. He even agreed that Cuomo killed a lot of elderly by putting Wuhan patients into nursing homes. That didn’t matter, orange man bad.
Sometimes you just have to recognize that some people excuse evil for what they want to believe and really always have. Age doesn’t change them.
The leftists are probably/certainly stupid enough to think this is a sign of weakness, and that they are "winning". Meanwhile, the right is keeping its powder dry and waiting to see the whites beige of their eyes.
Here in Raleigh When I go to vote they look me up in a register. Check my info, ID. Then the poll worker writes a unique number on the ballot. I vote then run the ballot into the counter.
So my ballot can be attributed to me via the unique number written on he ballot.
Not really secret.
Got a lot of thumbs up, and several ugly looks.
I live in a Trump friendly county, 62.5%-35% Trump vs hildabutchbitch in 2016, not bad for a county that 20 years ago was 3-1 demonRAT over pubbies.
There are hundreds of Trump 2020, signs, posters, flags and a few houses and barns completely covered with Trump stuff.
I travel locally, and have seen a single biden sign, on RT 31 near the village of Manns Choice {I think that is Bedford County}.
My county, Westmoreland, will increase both the number and the % for Trump in 2020.
I have been canvassing for Trump, {I did it in 2016} and there is much more Trump enthusiasm in the homes that I have visited this cycle.
I bought a face shield that clips onto a baseball cap (I hate masks). It’s clipped onto my red MAGA hat, and that’s what I wear whenever I go onto a store requiring a face covering. I’ve gotten a bunch of compliments, quite a few smiles, and 2 people who remarked that I was “braver than they are” to wear the hat. (I live in North Georgia, so those 2 remarks surprised me a bit. The craziness/fear has even spread to my neck of the woods. Sad.)
You are braver than I am. I live in a republican area and I’m still hesitant about putting Trump signs in the yard.
Right wingers know left wingers cannot “discuss” politics, cannot tolerate disagreement and will likely go psycho; liberalism reflects a mental disorder, after all.
Left wingers will not, can not risk hearing truth and logic. It causes them confusion, discomfort and cognitive dissonance.
Where did you get a face shield that attaches to a baseball cap?
I won’t put anything on my car, and I might be hesitant about putting a sign in my yard (haven’t made my mind up on that yet, although I’m leaning toward no). Not a fan of vandalism. But I’m figuring that my hat would require them to confront me directly, and that I can handle. (I’m a 5’2 female, so the optics would be VERY bad for the aggressor.)
I bought the shield & the clips from a a small business called Armor Hat (wwe.armorhat.com). The guy prints the stuff on a 3D printer.
That’s a good take on it, Mort.
we put a sign out in 2016 (actually a gift from an immediate neighbor) and had no issues. The atmosphere today is just so different. Who would ever thought that we would fear wearing a hat or putting a bumper sticker on a car. I guess it’s all the racism Trump has encouraged. /S
We talk politics here at work we get fired. Dosent matter if you are left or right.
I worked at one place that prevented the wearing of political tee shirts. If you wore one to work you had to take it off, and they would give you a company tee.
I got about a dozen new tee shirts before they caught on.
Wait till Trumps wins—the rioting will be all over—cities will burn along with targets linked to the GOP. I fear the next wave is bombings and assassinations. New Weather underground.
American citizens are not acclimating to communist rule as smoothly as expected. Most have, but there is always that anomaly that poses significant risk to the overall apparatus.
We know how to shut off your electricity and water... and you don’t know how to turn it back on before you die.
Enough said.
Our self restraint should not be mistaken for cowardice.
You need to draw them out before you can get them.
The simple animal allways falls into the simple trap.
Because when tenured professors and teachers in unions get fired for wrong think, everyone else’s jobs are in danger, too.
I appreciate discretion.
I abhor cowardice.
