Does it feel like youre walking on eggshells lately when talking about politics? Youre not alone. A new national survey of 2,000 Americans I conducted at the Cato Institute finds that 62 percent of Americans say the political climate these days prevents them from saying what they believe because others might find it offensive. This share is up from 58 percent in 2017.
Notably, self-censorship is not a partisan issue. Majorities of Democrats (52 percent), Independents (59 percent), and Republicans (77 percent) all agree they have political views they are afraid to share.

If I’m asked at my job, I’ll offer my opinion. If I get canceled, the job was obviously not worth having in the first place.
Before I talk politics I want the other person patted down for weapons.
Brilliant Psy-Ops now they’ll get branded as infiltrators.
Because it has never been as polarizing an issue as it is now. This is the result of more than 20 years of the two sides getting further and further apart.
I avoid politics on the job because it’s not why I’m there. Same with religion in general. In that sense, I also don’t want to come to work only to be bombarded with someone’s liberal or atheist dogmas.
I have a nice 3x5 foot flag on the house with a solar light that illuminates it at night. It’s beautiful! Honestly I have thought at times of taking it down because I have a decent car that I leave in the driveway. Neighbor across the street feels the same. I notice most of the flags in the neighborhood are little 6 inch flags at the end of their sidewalks.
My best friend is a flaming liberal. We’ve known each other since age 5. Went to school together, college together. We have an unspoken rule to not talk politics. We’ve lasted longer than girlfriends and wives. We have a lot of common shared history. We have shared mutual interests and hobbies. He’s a very good person who has helped me out when I really needed help. We just don’t talk politics and it works for us.
I really don’t care about offending someone, the truth is the truth sometimes. I’m worried about the violent and vengeful types that tend to make up the radical left.
Because everyone knows Orange Man Bad and anyone who disagrees is a dangerous Nazi KKK fascist.
Because most OF US have a job and will lose it if we come out of the closet and reveal that we think the right way.
Because they don’t want their homes burned to the ground.
This all began in High Tech back around ‘98-02.
Suddenly Conservatives were getting surprises during review cycles, the general feeling they were being forced out.
After sharing notes, we discovered it was only White Americans and political Conservatives who were getting hit.
We all decided the safest thing was to stop talking politics.
It was so bad that after the 911 attacks, messages came from Executive Staff that non-Americans should stop talking politics and let Americans deal with the loss.
Up until then, non-Americans could bash America all day long but we were attacked if we tried to defend our opinions.
The worst was when HP and Carly Forina demanded fired Americans either spend 6 months training their replacements or they would be terminated immediately.
This was happening at Intel, Cisco, HP, Microsoft (but not at Apple) and just every other major Silicon Valley company.
That 50+% of democrats are afraid to admit they believe the democrat party has gone to far, IMHO.
Phoned an 88-year old relative yesterday after more than a decade of no contact. We had a cordial conversation about family, the societal challenges to individual liberty and c competency. etc. So far so good, until the name of the red-headed man was uttered - I don’t remember whether by her or me. She declared herself a “never trumper.” I shared, in turn, that I had prayed fervently for his election. I shared that I spend a huge amount of time reading widely all points of view, etc.. She declared that she does not read widely and does not have the interest to do so. She then declared, “The problems are things I can’t do anything about. I have no control over these things. The one thing I can do is vote.” It’s this “logic” that is sinking the country.
Yes, people are afraid to say what they think in public. But they are not afraid to vote what they think in the privacy of the voting booth.
And that is very bad news for the democrats, because I think that 62% will vote Trump.
And patience.
I saw one advertised which said "Made You Look".
“Ive got a gorgeous red cap from the Heber Cheese company in Utah. I wont wear it.”
I purchased a cute red pooch sweater for my dog. It had large white letters saying ‘Trump 2020’. You should see the looks on neighborhood libs when I walked bye.
Agreed. What the Dems have done here is to shoot themselves in both feet and the a*s because doing any sort of accurate polling is now impossible. They are always going to be working blind and getting ambushed at the polls from here on out.
And why is that?
Because I am an G-d-fearing, America-loving, heterosexual, pro-life, pro-family, law and order-loving, Normal human being.
And THAT apparently nowadays, is a bad thing.
8th and I, Friday evenings in the summer. One of the best things to do in DC.
