As negotiations for another giant spending bill proceed in Washington, President Trump faces a choice. Does he do another deal giving Speaker Nancy Pelosi most of what she wants, perhaps splitting the GOP in the process? Or does he press his own economic agenda and, if the Speaker blocks it, take that to the voters in November?
On present trend Mr. Trump is headed for the first choice. Mrs. Pelosis House passed her $3 trillion spending bill in May, and the President is moving toward her step by step. Even if the final number ends up somewhere between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, the Speaker would get most of what she wants.
That includes more money for profligate Democratic-run states, more money for income-transfer payments, more payments to schools whether or not they reopen for classroom instruction, and perhaps even an extension of $600 weekly federal jobless payments that subsidize unemployment by paying workers more not to work than they earn on the job.
*** Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin seems to have convinced Mr. Trump that this is necessary to get a grand deal and help the economy through Election Day. Wed say the opposite is closer to the truth. The jobless payments will keep unemployment higher than it would otherwise be, as University of Chicago economist Casey Mulligan has shown. If schools stay closed, fewer parents will be able to return to work.
Another $300 billion or more for the states would be counterproductive in encouraging more states to keep their economies locked down for longer. Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants $30 billion from the feds to fill his rising budget gap but is still keeping New York City largely under wraps.

IF they make this round of extra unemployment of $600 or whatever TAXABLE, watch how fast people will go back to work.
How long was this extra $$$ paid? 12 weeks??? That is $7200 already paid that won’t be taxable. Start charging taxes on it & the shift in attitudes will be visible.
Where I live, I know people living on less than $800 a MONTH Soc Sec.
Do you know if we have any laws on the books that can allow Trump to override these onerous regulations of businesses, when they do significant interstate, foreign or Indian reservation commerce (Article I, Section 8)?
“This all starts and continues with Trump not being honest and strong on the covid hoax and not having got control of his own admin (and rising tech censorship) three and a half years in. As long as he continues on the path for the disastrous forced mRNA vaccine for a hoax, were going to remain under a medical/tech tyranny that they know how to rule us, the government, and the economy with.”

Lets look at this man for one second.
Walking back to the White House after a long day.
https://cms.frontpagemag.com/sites/default/files/uploads/2020/08/tr.jpg
A 74-year-old man coming back home from work at 2AM while most men his age are retired in their vacation homes.
He comes back after a long day that probably started before the sun rose and gets back home exhausted with his tie open and hat in his hand feeling that an accomplished day is finally over.
That amazing man is in the age of many peoples grandfathers, great grandfathers or my grandfather when he passed away, but this man just came back home from work, for me, for you.
This man, left his massive gold-covered mansion where he could retire happily and play golf all day long.
But this man put his wealth aside and went to work for free, for $1 a year, for me, for you, for us, for AMERICA.
While other presidents became rich from the presidency, this man LOST over 2 billion dollars of his wealth during this short 4 years of his life. Yet, he donated 1 million dollars to flood victims in Houston.
He put aside his amazing retirement lifestyle for getting ambushed every single day by the media and the Radical Left Democrats that trash this man who works for them until 1 AM for free.
He doesn’t do it for money or power, he already had it. He is doing it so their houses will be safe, so their schools will get better, so they will be able to find jobs or start a new business easier, so they will be able to keep few dollars in their pockets at the end of the month while other presidents before him made sure to keep digging in their pockets and empty them for taxes.
Look at this picture again, that man is at the age of your fathers, grandfathers or maybe YOU. Where is your respect? Honor? Appreciation? Are you THAT BLIND? THAT BLIND to not see a thing this man is doing for you and for your family?
THAT BLIND that after all his work for minority groups in America you keep calling him a racist? I am the son of an Auschwitz Survivor and someone who lost 99% of my family to the camps and ovens of Nazi Germany. And Im no fool. DONALD TRUMP IS NO RACIST OR ANTI-SEMITE.
Are you THAT BLIND to not see how much this country developed in the last 4 years? President Donald J. Trump, I want to thank you with all my heart. I am so sorry for the blind hatred you have been made to endure.
You are a good and generous man. I KNOW THIS. What I dont know and think about often is what kind of people is it who can be so hateful in their hearts to spew such hate and evilness, not just at you but at your family too?
Or people mocking and making jokes about you because youre not a professional politician groomed in speech-making and straight-faced lying.
Or attacking your wife and young son.
People who believe their hatred is their own. But they cant articulate why they hate.
What kind of people are these?
WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE ARE THESE?
They are the kind of people who do not realize that they have been manipulated and brainwashed by such a deep-rooted EVIL MOTIVATED BY EVIL MEDIA.
The American people are in a bad place right now.... in their hearts and souls. God help us.... Trump is not the problem.
President TRUMP is our only hope.

Unemployment benefit is taxed and I believe the federal $600 will be treated the same way. Beneficiaries will receive a 1099-G as tax season begins.
Perhaps some people will get a very unpleasant surprise when they start doing their 2020 taxes.
That is gonna hurt a lot, if these low wage earners havent been on UI before. Does anyone think they are saving a portion of this windfall? I doubt it.
It is a small world indeed!
I think he could do more good for the economy by rescinding his own declaration of a state of emergency and letting the Democrat governors twist in the wind as they try to justify maintaining their lockdowns through the election.
