Demetria Brown knew the exact moment she decided she'd had it.
She'd just watched a video of George Floyd pinned under an officer's knee, saying he couldn't breathe as he begged for his life. She sobbed as she played it over and over.
On June 1, a week after Floyd's death, she quit her job as a detention officer for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, she sold her house, stuffed her belongings into 13 duffel bags and relocated to Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast.
Brown, 42, is one of many African Americans leaving the United States permanently for many reasons, including racism and fear of police brutality. Her flight landed in her new hometown on June 25, a month to the day Floyd died.

Funny. I had the same suspicion.
And, if she bought into the propaganda, very likely she was not popular at work.
Agree!
Someone should do a timeline site/page, on her story.
Keep tabs on how well shes faring, in her new homeland.
I hate to admit it, but there are many Americans, even patriotic ones, even sometimes myself who take the liberties and prosperity we have for granted.
I have been lucky...by the time I was 13 I had travelled all the way around the globe and seen other countries and real poverty. Not Chicago or New York style of poverty.
Real, honest to goodness, loincloth on a skeletal figure in the street poverty.
When I landed in New York at Kennedy International when my family returned from five years overseas back in 1972, I got down on the tarmac and actually kissed it as a 13 year old, I was so glad to be back.
I sometimes wish I could remember what that felt like, to be that glad to be back on American soil...even though it is hard, I remember that I felt that way and there was a reason for it.
It keeps me grounded.
She can go and help pay for the wall.
No mention of the tens of thousands of black people who come here to escape the racism, tribalism, and injustice in Africa, South America, and Asia.
I am all all good with that, as long as they don’t want to bring their S***Hole politics and customs with them. Bring your hardworking self and desire to assimilate and be an American, and I’ll be there to shake your hand.
See? That’s why I no longer go there! ;)
If she thinks America is racist, going to Mexico is a ridiculous choice. They are extremely racist down there. The Minesota kkk is made exclusively of Mexicans..
If she is going to live on her retirement checks, within 6-months she’ll be working in a bordello, working as a drug mule to the U.S., working as a security guard for a drug kingpin, or raped & killed...
Perhaps she can be the beginning of a massive Leftist migration south of the border. Call your friends, neighbors, and relatives with your great idea. Go Demetria, go!
Why didn’t she move to Africa?
She thought Mexico was a better choice?
Well, OK.
I'm sure she has a nice shiny govt pension to sustain her....
more should leave, and btw, stay gone, all the expats should not be able to just come and go....just go.....
If not, and apparently not, then she's an attention seeking hypocrite. Good riddance. I wish everyone who protests/riots when black criminals get killed in the commission of a crime, I wish everyone who complains would similarly leave America.
Well i guess she’s not afraid of cartel violence.
They will eat her alive down there if this is what she breaks down crying about.
Yeah. Eventually, I think she will be in for a very rude awakening.
