The momentum that had been building around Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) as a possible vice presidential pick for Joe Biden has come to an abrupt halt amid controversy over Cuba.
The suggestion that Bass harbored some degree of past sympathy for the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro has caused consternation among Democrats in Florida.
They worry that selecting Bass could seriously endanger Biden’s chances in the largest of the battleground states. The stakes could hardly be higher, they warn.
Picking Bass “violates the central tenet of a vice presidential selection, which is ‘Do no harm,’” according to Florida-based pollster and Democratic strategist Fernand Amandi.
“It does not just do harm — it would very well be something that sabotages the prospects of carrying the nation’s biggest swing state in an election that must be won for the future of the republic,” he added.
Cuban Americans usually cast around 6 percent of all votes in the Sunshine State.

Not a serious consideration in the first place.
Nearly all the names thrown about do nothing for the ticket; they either don’t really contribute the electoral map or they have baggage to handle. California isn’t likely in play, so Bass and Harris don’t help with that. Warren is another New Englander and far left. Maybe he’s got a surprise. He should never have boxed himself into a corner by announcing the gender of the candidate before he won the nomination. But that was his error.
They’re not troubled by her communist sympathies, but the threat it will cause to their power.
How stupid are they if the didn’t think her comments at least the ones that were not scrubbed would be talked about. Tucker thinks it will be Rice who is bad and has shown to be a superb liar.
