US firearms purchases skyrocket during pandemic, according to FBI records
CNN ^ | 08 03 2020 | Josh Campbell

As the nation has grappled with a global pandemic and images of some rioters causing damage after hijacking peaceful protests demanding racial justice, more and more Americans appear to be arming themselves.

In July 2020, the FBI conducted more than 3.6 million firearm background checks, making it the third highest month on record for checks since the bureau began keeping statistics in 1998, according to new data released on Monday by the agency. By comparison, the bureau conducted just over 2 million checks in July 2019.

Background checks associated with the sale, transfer or permitting of firearms set an all-time record in June when the FBI conducted more than 3.9 million checks, followed by March 2020 when the agency saw 3.7 million checks.

One other enduring pattern in 2020 has been the order of states topping the list, with Illinois, Kentucky, Texas, Florida and California continually seeing the most background checks for the sale, transfer, or licensing of guns.

Under US law, federally licensed gun dealers must run checks on every buyer, whether a purchase is made in a store or at a gun show. A buyer presents his or her identification to the seller, fills out a form from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives -- which lists the buyer's age, address, race, and any criminal history -- and then the seller submits the information to the FBI for checks against databases in order to ensure a criminal record does not preclude the purchase.

Riots had nothing to do with this! </s>

Leave it up to CNN to think Americans purchasing firearms in greater than ever quantities to explain it in a way that we are going to shot our way out of a pandemic.

CNN - The Pravda for the left.

Over 40% of those buying firearms last month were new gun owners and brand new 2A supporters. This has been a huge trend since Feb of this year.

Let the left wing put that in their pipes and smoke it. All of the rioting promoted, supported, and enabled by the left is causing more support of our second amendment rights...

Talk about foreseen consequences. The left supports, enables, and promotes lawlessness in our streets and loses
big ground on gun control.

Life is good when the left steps on their extending anatomy.

My CHP is submitted, processing appointment date is in October 2020.

Then I’m sure I’ll have to wait before I actually get the permit.

Then, I’ll wait some more for delivery of whatever I purchase.

I can’t imagine going through that to exercise a Constitutional right. Doesn’t the CT license plate say ‘The Constitution State’? WTH happened?

You’ll be lucky if there is anything left to buy.
We have run out of almost everything but Smith and Wesson and Taurus.
No Sigs.
No Glocks.
No FNs.
No Rugers.
No Springfields.

My only regret is that I did not buy more SWBI (Formerly AOBC) when it was $7 a share.

Not to gloat (Well maybe just a little) but I can go to the hardware store, buy a pistol, ammunition and a concealment holster, load it, tuck it in my belt and walk out in a matter of minutes. Completely legal. I love Alaska.

And this is the only reason background checks where lower in July from June.

The nation’s gun sellers are running out of stock!

Someone I know just bought a Ruger LCRX and a PC carbine at Bass Pro. Both were on sale plus he got a military discount.
