Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac became the first NBA player not to kneel during the national anthem since the league resumed on Thursday.
Later on Friday San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and assistant coach Becky Hammon also stood.
On Thursday all players from the four teams in action all knelt during the pre-match anthem.
Isaac, who chose not to wear a Black Lives Matter t-shirt, said: "Absolutely I believe Black Lives Matter."
He added: "A lot went into my decision ... kneeling or wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt doesn't go hand in hand in supporting Black lives."
Isaac had told his team-mates earlier in the week of his decision. They all chose to kneel before their 128-118 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
"That's a personal decision," said Magic coach Steve Clifford. "We're all supporting each other in this. And if guys are not comfortable kneeling and they want to stand, nobody has a problem with that. I support him. His team-mates support him. The organisation supports him. That's part of living in our country."

RE: I follow college basketball and dont recall him before
I think Jonathan Isaac was drafted after only one year of playing in college. He played for Florida State.
He was selected by Orlando in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft with the sixth overall pick.
RE: I always liked him - but bummer he got AIDS.
Aren’t you confusing Jonathan Isaac with Magic Johnson?
Yes, I looked him up
No wonder I hadn’t heard of him
Just stop playing the national anthem at sporting events. It gives these clowns their platform for their bogus protests. Also, people who respect the anthem and the flag wish to remain silent during the anthem, or they would boo these jerks. If they stopped playing the anthem, would these dolts just kneel in silence? If so, then any fans present would have the chance to express their true feelings.
BTW, have any of these people thought about the goal of this? When does it end? When police are perfect, or when there are no police? This whole thing is just stupid. People ought to be grateful that police misconduct is reported and that it is rare. You know where you find no police misconduct? Iran, China, N. Korea... it’s as if it doesn’t exist.
Good man!
So why not, the one time he does something that arguably may have a conservative/pro U.S. justification, does he decided to be silent about why he isn't kneeling?
The NFL and NBA both considered playing the anthem before players came out, which would mean they wouldn't be in front for fans to see whether they stood or knelt. The players considered that repressive and "denying them their voice", so the leagues backed down.
In any case, it is an opportunity for the rest of us to see what they truly are. So I suppose that's something.
NEVER back down to the LEFT.
Jonathan Isaac has my respect. The kneelers can drop dead for all I care.
He’s not at a military ceremony. It’s a game. Played in shorts by tall men.
I can respect him for being the only one with the..um guts to stand.
:)
They win now anyway, because nobody will yell at them and boo during the anthem. I don’t think they should be given the platform to display their ugliness.
Amen!
Excellent point!
