No. It’s rotting now because S. Africa is adopting failed policies that have turned other prosperous nations into hellholes.

Some people got very creative in smuggling out their resources, if they had time. Jewelry was one route...wear high-quality gold and diamonds on your person (registered with customs) on the way out, sell them in the West and deposit the money in a Western account, and replace them with lower-quality or fakes for the return home.

I watched the global progs elevate Mandela, using the leverage of anti-apartheid whites. It did not happen in a vacuum. It was *astonishing* in exactly the same way zer0’s electoral victory was *astonishing*.
Those same whites, some of them sadly ex-pat South Africans, are now trying the same tactics here.
Even now, the ANC has black opposition in the form of the Zulus.

There were not that many people in South Africa before the Boer. From what I’ve read, they were mostly hunters and gatherers.
It was the astonishing rise in production and standard of living and the availability of paid work and food that attracted outside tribes in high numbers. Now they are there permanently and they cannot feed themselves. In nearly 400 years, the continental indigenous did not learn how to farm from the Europeans. As you say: the men believed themselves superior to farming. But well-positioned ANC women were also given land and they were just as incapable of meaningful production.
The Prog Left destroyed it, because they were salivating over the prospect of a black communist nation with nukes. No way they will disband the US military if they win here, either. And Americans will not disable their armament as the South Africans purportedly did. (Not certain just how that actually went down, though)
Why is it that when white people exploit black people, there is development and prosperity, and when black people exploit black people there is devastation and failure?

Saw it in Papua in the 70s. Women digging with sticks and carrying 40 pounds of vegetables on a tumplime while the men would deign to carry firewood, an airline flight bag, or a male child (and not all at the same time.
Most of the time, the men strolled in a group, laughing and weaving grass armbands.
When the sun went down, the men carried out ambushes on other villages. They called it *payback*. And they spent loads of time in the ‘men only’ huts, chewing betel and roasting yams.
I’d call it a hard-wired tribal human default, except in primitive European settlements, men did real work and the women were alongside them. There was still work separated by gender (mostly), but both actually produced value for the village and individual families.
What they don’t tell you is that there actually was a black moddle class during apartheid.
