Germany ended 2019 with a budget surplus of €13.5 billion. The government wants to spend on infrastructure and other projects, but critics say the money isn’t getting where it needs to go. I was stationed in West Germany in the early eighties. God knows I tried to support the German economy by drinking copious amounts of strong German beer, but to no avail.

Most Germans did appreciate the armed forces of the USA.
