President Trump will allow people brought to the US illegally as minors to renew work permits and protections against deportation for one year.
The White House announced the decision in a Tuesday call with reporters. The approximately 700,000 people with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status can seek renewals.
Previously, DACA recipients could renew for two years. A senior administration official said a new memo by Homeland Security acting secretary Chad Wolf orders rejection of new applications.
The Trump administration will meanwhile develop plans to “wind down” DACA, the official said.

i don’t get it - surely this will demoralize republicans more than rejecting renewals would energize democrats. why signal he isn’t going to hold the line on illegals? why not refuse and make SCOTUS order him to, so he can highlight the importance of being the one to replace ginsberg?

Make them all come in, fill out the paperwork, and that helps to locate the bad ones.
And if they don’t fill out the paperwork, then they have no excuse when they are kicked out.

DACA was always going to be a bargaining chip used to secure wall funding, universal eVerify or some other concession from the Dems. I knew it and I suspect most of you did as well.
BLM has given Trump an opening with Hispanics as they watch the Democrats giving away the store to Blacks.
They've had four years. Why care about DACA people now?

It takes time to review and investigate legit humanitarian cases from the many fraud fool the system cases.

It’s a political ball, to be bounced and faked this way, then that way. Like Obamacare, drugs, guns, the economy...all are balls in play. Politicians don’t solve problems, they use problems. I think that Trump either plays the games by the rules developed over two centuries, or he loses the game. Yes, it’s annoying as %$#&, but that’s the way the game is played.
I still think We, The People, are much better off under Trump than any of the alternatives. He has kept more promises than any other politician I can remember.
Provide hope for the future and don’t piss off their legal relatives before the election strategery.
