Neil Young Says He’s Considering Suing Trump for Playing His Song at Rallies
Breitbart ^ | July 28 2020 | DAVID NG

Rocker Neil Young said that he has changed his mind and is now considering suing President Donald Trump over the continued use of his 1989 hit single “Rockin in the Free World” at campaign rallies.

Neil Young said the reason he is considering is the president’s recent decision to deploy federal agents to urban areas in order to quell weeks of rioting and destruction. The musician described federal agents as “thugs” and said the rioting has been peaceful, despite the ample destruction to federal property and private businesses.

“I am changing my mind about suing President Trump. Reconsidering. I’m looking at it again,” Young wrote in a post on his official site.

By the way, Canadians seem to have this weird obsession with Americans. It’s a mix of an inferiority complex and a superiority complex.

People here really think they are better than Americans. I’ve lived here long enough to know.

And I really hate it. Can’t wait for the border to re-open so I can go home. My husband of 30+ years even knows that.

I want to sue Neil Young for having made most of his songs and having them played over the air. They definitely are air pollution and off-key, both death penalty crimes where I come from.

Yeah, but he said only love can make you cry, so if he’s crying about this, he must love Trump.

No Ted songs? What, you don’t think “Wang Tang Poontang” wouldn’t go over with the base? ;-)

I bet you're right, and those folks have much better singing voices than that whiny-voiced crybaby Neil Yuck too!   (That one guy there sounds like he's had voice lessons from this guy.)

I enjoyed the comments below the song, in your youtube post.   A couple of those comments mentioned the good old days with Philly AM radio station WIBG, and DJ Hy "Hyski" Lit, in relation to that song.   (Another famous local DJ there at WIBG at the time was Joe "The Rockin' Bird" Niagara.)   There's a bunch of posts of both of those guys out there on youtube.

Another song they could play at the rallies (probably more fitting for Biden rallies, if he ever has one), where they likely wouldn't be sued, would be this one:

      "Surfin' Bird" - The Trashmen

Correct, Mick Jagger publicly admitted there’s nothing the Stones can do about him playing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” at rallies.

Doesn’t matter. My point is still correct. If he ‘publicizes’ his work and makes it available to anyone willing to pay royalties, he can’t withhold it from a specific group just because he doesn’t like them.

If he had a definitive case, he would have already filed.

I understand your point about the ‘letter’ of the law, and the legal definition of ‘public domain’, and I concede that. Thanks for pointing it out.

That said, I feel that this is part of the problem with the law these days. Legal findings are too often determined on the basis of the ‘letter of the law’ and not the ‘intent of the law’. You have to respect both, and find a balance - though I admit that this is difficult to do.

In the early sixties, a broadcasting company would precede a format change at its stations by broadcasting "Mope-itty-Mope" over and over for days on end. The DJ would announce that he was about to play "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You" by Connie Francis or "You Won't Forget Me" by Jackie De Shannon, but would then play the Bostones' opus. During station breaks, they would run ads for such enterprises as the Royal Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.

I have an aircheck of one of these broadcasts.

“hasn’t done anything in 30 45 years”

He released something shortly after 9/11.

I’m not sure if a doctor prescribed him some anti-psychotic drugs, or he stopped smoking pot to come up with this:

“It’s funny when people sing along with “Born in the USA” thinking it’s a positive song but it’s really anti-American bitterness.”

I’ve said the same thing.

“Ditch “Rocking in the Free World” and get something patriotic. How about Lloyd Marcus’s iconic Tea Party Song?!”

Or play Kate Smith’s “God Bless America” and really watch some libtard heads explode.

Trump Train 2020 Video for Re-Election, by Lloyd Marcus would be a great tribute.
