Michael Cohen released from federal prison

Michael Cohen was cut loose from federal prison Friday afternoon — a day after a judge ruled he was thrown in jail as “retaliation” for planning to write a tell-all book about President Trump.

Cohen was walked out of Otisville prison in central New York at about 1 p.m., his lawyer, Danya Perry, said. He was picked up by his son and is headed to his apartment in Manhattan.

“Mr. Cohen is extremely gratified that the court upheld his fundamental constitutional right to speak freely and publicly,” Perry added in a statement.

His release comes a day after Judge Alvin Hellerstein said in a Manhattan federal court hearing that he believes the Bureau of Prisons and US Probation Office retaliated against the president’s former fixer by transferring him to jail from home confinement earlier this month.

Color me SHOCKED the judge was a Clinton appointee and completely ignored Cohen's penchant for dining out while on "home" confinement!

Cohen was a jerk when he was Trump’s lawyer, I couldn’t stand the guy. All tough talk, bluster and “I’ll sue you!”

That was until he got put into the pressure. Then he folded up like a cheap suit, and cried like a little girl.

The feds put pressure on him to turn on Trump. And nothing came out of it.

More evidence how squeaky-clean Trump is.

>>a day after a judge ruled he was thrown in jail as “retaliation” for planning

How queer, there has been a lot of prosecution of those tangentially connected to Trump with a lot of excessive punitive time.

But the courts are biased. No surprise there.

I thought he was sent back to jail for being out on the town partying while under house arrest.

Laws for thee and not for me

Huh? I thought he was convicted, and thus “thrown in jail” based on his confession to various crimes. What’s the retaliation? Was he sent back to prison for violating the rules of his release? Saw a story about him eating out that claimed it was a violation but didn’t necessarily agree he broke the rules.

When I heard Biden complain about “armored SUVs” and a “militarized police force”, I wonder why he didn’t say anything about the tactics used against Roger Stone - on the charge of non-violent process crimes.

I will repeat myself again: When asked the question “by what authority does the POTUS send agents into the cities” I say by the same authority agents went to Jim Crow South between 1947-1971 to enforce civil rights. The same authority they used to bring down Al Capone. Whatsamatta with these Democrats I thought they liked big weaponized federal forces?

If it wasn’t for political principles, they wouldn’t have any principles at all.

“More evidence how squeaky-clean Trump is.”

More evidence of Donald Trump’s inability to identify and hire outstanding people. Cohen was his personal attorney. His term as president has been riddled with poor choices for key positions: Reince Priebus, James Mattis, Rex Tillerson, John Bolton, Omarosa Manigault Newman, Mark Esper, Christopher Wray, John Kelly, Jeff Sessions, Paul Manafort, Anthony Scaramucci, Tom Price, Steve Bannon, H.R. McMaster, Rob Porter, John Dowd are some of many. One might also question the selection of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as special advisers.

Finding, hiring, and developing excellent management talent does not appear to be a core competency of Donald Trump.

And yet he still managed to become a billionaire, have a long running hit TV show, and become 45th President of the United States, against insurmountable odds. Imagine how well he’d have done with his life if only he’d followed your advice, lol.

“Imagine how well he’d have done with his life if only he’d followed your advice, lol.”

I’m speaking to his job as president, not how well he performed (or not) in the real estate business and television programming, or his success running for political office. I am speaking to his appointments after his election to the office of president. Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, and Chief of the White House Staff are the most critical appointments a president makes. He failed with all and his administration struggled as a result.

Imagine how much better a job as president he would have done had he hired capable people. A different attorney general and there would have been no Mueller investigation to consume huge amounts of his and Congress’s time. A capable FBI director would have cleaned up the agency by now. A capable defense secretary would have ended the political correctness agenda, and fired the generals and admirals who put political correctness ahead of readiness.

Every person has 24 hours in a day, including the president of the United States. Capable leaders of organizations identify, attract and hire great subordinates to assure excellent execution of the programming supporting the mission which frees up the leader’s time for more important issues. Poor performing subordinates create distractions, consume inordinate amounts of the leader’s time, and slow progress. Even worse poor performing subordinates over time sap the leader’s credibility with core constituents. All of this has occurred in this administration.

The Uniparty used the Mueller coup to hamstring the MAGA agenda. If it wasn’t Mueller it would have been another special prosecutor cooked up by Rotten Rod on a flimsy pretext. Nobody can reform the FBI without top cover Congressional oversight. That was never in the cards for the same reason. POTUS has spent the past 4 years fighting the GOP every bit as much as the Dems and Deep State.

I usually like your posts but find this detached from the realities of the swamp.

“If it wasn’t Mueller it would have been another special prosecutor cooked up by Rotten Rod on a flimsy pretext.”

If the AG had been capable, confident, and strong he or she would not have recused. If the AG did not recuse, Rosenstein could not appoint a special counsel without approval from the AG. Sessions was weak and he allowed Rosenstein to talk him into recusing. Recall it happened quickly and Sessions didn’t even put up a fight or discuss with his boss (Trump) the implications. A competent, confident, and loyal AG would have said no to a special counsel just as Eric Holder refused demands to appoint special counsels during the Obama administration. No AG approval, no special counsel.

I agree Trump has fought the GOP as much as the Deep State over the past 3 1/2 years. Even more reason he should have done a better job of hiring people who would support him and have his back.

During the campaign Trump appointed Chris Christie to head the transition. This is probably the most important job a candidate for president fills. The transition lead is responsible for identifying, vetting, and having the key positions in an incoming administration identified and ready to go the day after the election. All of the cabinet positions, key undersecretaries in various departments, Chief of Staff, key ambassadorships, and a number of other jobs should have been named within a week or two of election day.

The sad fact is Trump had no team ready to go. Trump, the candidate who bragged about his rolodex and all the great people he would bring into government from industry was totally unprepared to assume office. He fired Christie and started looking for people. The story about his great business friends wanting to come to Washington turned out to be hyperbole. Without CEO’s chomping at the bit to come to work for Trump in Washington, and without any prep work having been done, Trump had to rely on Reince Priebus, Mitch McConnell, and other establishment Republicans to find people to staff the administration. When all you are doing is trying to quickly fill seats, you end up making bad hires. On inauguration day, he had very few appointees identified and even fewer approved by the Senate. As a result, Trump came into office with Obama holdovers staffing most of the key jobs below the cabinet secretary level. A year later, he was still filling jobs.

So what happened? Did Christie fail Trump? Was Trump not thinking about what he would have to do the day after the election? Did Trump and Christie not believe Trump would win and as a result ignored the transition process? Whatever happened, it was a major failure of Trump as a leader, and chief executive. Successful CEO’s must think about and prepare for the tasks ahead of them, not just the issues they face in the moment.

In the immortal words of Harry S. Truman, “The buck stops here.” Trump made bad personnel decisions during the campaign and immediately after which faciliated the assault of the Washington establishment on his presidency. He, and the nation, have been paying the price since then. On election day 2020, he may lose as a result of not having an A+ team ready to go to battle with him on inauguration day 2017 given that some of the senior appointees he did make seem to have no hesitation to publicly decline to follow his direction (Defense Secretary Esper, Christopher Wray for example).
