Ridge did say he would "welcome the opportunity to work with any federal agency to reduce crime or lawlessness in the cities" if he were governor. But "it would be a cold day in hell before I would consent to an uninvited, unilateral intervention into one of my cities," he added, specifically calling out how the federal authorities were unwelcome in Portland.

Imagine a situation where the Klan rampaged a city for weeks, where the local authorities were sympathetic, and where the police were ordered to stand down. The left would demand federal action and cowards like Ridge wouldn’t make a peep.
When people don’t include a comment with their post, it’s sometimes hard for others to figure our their intent in posting that article. (Just a pet-peeve of mine. Although in this case I was pretty sure what your intent was. :) )
Terrorists? What do you call these violent thugs in America’s cities. These are not protesters. The U.S. Constitution protects “PEACEFUL” protests. It does not protect violent thuggery.
