PITTSBURGH The Pennsylvania Department of Health will not allow the Toronto Blue Jays to play at PNC Park in Pittsburgh amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In recent weeks, we have seen a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in southwestern Pennsylvania, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. To add travelers to this region for any reason, including for professional sports events, risks residents, visitors and members of both teams. We know that this virus does not discriminate, and can even make professional athletes very sick. We are committed to protecting the health and well-being of all Pennsylvanians.
The information was provided to representatives of the Toronto Blue Jays during a conversation earlier Wednesday, officials said.
Pittsburgh Pirates president Travis Williams issued the following statement Wednesday:
I am extremely proud of our staffs effort, together with the support of Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, to very quickly present Major League Baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays with an option to host their home games here at PNC Park during the 2020 season. This is an unprecedented situation and, therefore, we understand and support Governor Tom Wolfs decision. We are in agreement that the safety and health of those in our region must remain paramount. We are confident that the great people within the Blue Jays organization, working with Major League Baseball, will secure another option very soon.
So the Jays are looking for a home for the summer. The AAA ballpark on the border in Buffalo was considered but rejected due to concerns about the lighting. A couple of Florida sites were considered but dropped due to the rising fake case numbers there.
The Pirates' new GM used to work for the Jays and tried to do them a solid by letting them play here. But it seems Tom Wolf's tranny health secretary just can't stop bringing down the iron fist and has said no, again citing the Wuhan Virus.
The Pirates will still continue to play games here. Teams are going to be pretty much sequestered in their hotels while here so this does not make any sense.
Levine appears to be doing this to advance the propaganda point that fit and healthy young pro athletes are at significant risk of dying from the virus.
Interestingly this looks like it has opened a rift between Wolf and Lefty County Exec Rich Fitzgerald, who it seemed wanted to have the Jays here.
Does this mean that Pittsburgh will be forfeiting their home games against Toronto?
I’m just wondering why the state legislature has ceded so much unilateral executive authority to that idiot MR. Levine...
not enuf payment to HESHEIT?
not enuf payment to HERSHEY?
not enuf kickback to the murderous DNC-tranny coalition
to murder the elderly conservatives?
Early on in this whole COVID mess University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) who is also a major healthcare insurance provider and a very big part of the economy in the region, took some very aggressive actions in their facilities and administration regarding the budding pandemic. They called out Wolf and Levine for their gross mishandling of the situation, so if I had to venture a guess, this is likely a shot back at the Pittsburgh area like the petulant children they are.
Aside from the sports issue here, I am incensed by their ability to cross the border at will. I’d like to see my sister in Wisconsin but I can’t.
She told me last night that she was being abused by her boyfriend. Obviously I want to help her.
The Republicans have made several attempts to rein in the governor, but they don't have a veto-proof majority. Furthermore, the state supreme court is D dominated. Pa is very divided, but most of the time ambles along without major fireworks. As I talk to people, anger over deaths in the nursing homes is an issue, but otherwise in the SE part of the state, the gov has a lot of supporters who are really scared of the virus. It's a funny sort of place. People mostly live pretty conservatively, but there are a lot of 'feel-good' liberals who put up yard signs and vote D. A lot of group think. The gov is term limited. I really hope he doesn't have higher political aspirations and retires after this. The legislature has pushed back on a lot of his spending plans, but they have struggled mightily with his mandates under the extended emergency declaration. Businesses are mostly grudgingly going along with all the restrictions and keeping some revenue going any way they can. Reduced revenue has to be affecting state coffers.
Heres hoping a couple of minor cases of the flu get sprinkled around the league as soon as play begins. Let MLBs leftist, racist masters shut the farce down.
“OMG, tell her to get away from him now and to file charges if it was anything physical. That’s what I’d tell my daughters.”
Good advice. I just don’t know if she’ll listen. He seems to have quite a hold on her.
But thank you! And have a great day. :)

Yep, agree with all. I live in the western part of the state and I’m a bit dismayed that our Republican reps aren’t speaking out and making as much noise as Doug Mastriano. In Wolf’s case, I strongly suspect that he’ll be a future candidate for the Senate; he’d be a apt replacement for (Where in the World is) Bob Casey, but could pose a threat to the formerly “conservative” Pat Toomey.
When I wear one, I’ve been wearing a Trump 2020 mask around here, but I just ordered a “This mask is as useless as our governor” mask that I intend to wear proudly. Oh, and every comment I’ve gotten about the Trump mask has been positive. A few have looked at me like they’d like to say something, but my employees tell me I look “intimidating” and don’t invite discussion.
The only one I can find out our way who is making a lot of noise is Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, who is going to try to impeach Wolf.
Very unlikely to have the votes, but the hearings are going to make Tommie the Commie and Big Rachel sweat at least.
The difference between the NHL playoffs and the Blue Jays is that the NHL players are going to Toronto and staying there. All games are in Toronto and players will cocoon in place until their team is eliminated. The Blue Jays would be traveling in and out of Toronto. They would be playing all road games in the US. The government of Canada doesnt want to allow the team to keep coming into Canada after US trips. Whether you agree or not with Canadas decision, surely the difference is clear.
