In another life, Collins was married to Benedict Arnold.

I honestly don’t know of anything useful she’s ever done while in office.

She's voted for President Trump's judicial picks which is more than her challenger will do if she loses.

Despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth on this thread, her profile in cowardice was a smart move. She's in a tight race the GOP cannot afford to lose.

“I honestly don’t know of anything useful she’s ever done in office.”

Her very strong public support of the Kavanaugh nomination came at a very critical time. Politically, supporting Kavanaugh was unpopular in Maine and her vote for Kavanaugh galvanized groups to work for her defeat this year. If she had voted no, Joe Manchin would have had cover to vote no and Murkowski would like have switched to a no instead of present”. At that point Romney, or another GOP Senator would have joined the no votes sinking the nomination.

Who cares? I doubt Trump does. Her seat may be needed to retain control of the Senate.

If she was, she wouldn’t have voted for Kavanaugh.

We need to give her a pass for a very, very tough reelection campaign.

If she wins we get another 100 conservative judges and maybe another Supreme Court justice.

She has been there for the tough votes, which her opponents will no doubt point out.

Corrupt. Compromised. The only question is how?

Can’t say I blame her. Any GOP Senator in a state that Trump lost in 2016 is in a similar situation.

I’ll repeat something I posted many times in 2016 when Freepers complained about Republican House and Senate candidates whose support of Trump was weak at best: The first thing these candidates must do is WIN — however they get it done.

Is a Profile in Courage someone who loses an election because they don’t support a president who is not popular in her state?

Susan Collins has won FOUR statewide elections in Maine — which is four more than Trump has won.

To be fair, Trump has only run ONE political race - a national race at that - and he won.

But he didn’t win Maine — and that’s the state we’re talking about here. It’s not like Susan Collins represents Oklahoma or South Dakota.

Perhaps if Collins could express more pro-America views, it would be easier to endorse our pro-America President.

If Collins could support Kavanaugh, she could endorse Trump.

Treasonous RINOs are everywhere...

Good move on her part. The liberals in Maine don’t need another reason to turn up on election day to vote against her.

I dont see how her decision encourages Republicans to vote for her.

How Maine Voted...

Trump - 2016 - 44.9%

Romney - 2012 - 41.0%

McCain - 2008 - 40.4%

Susan Collins almost hit 70% in her 2014 reelection.

Hard to understand how she can be in serious danger in 2020.

Of course, when she first ran in 1996, she promised to serve “only two terms.”

If Collins had opposed Kavanaugh she would have been stripped of all financial support from the RNC for her re-election bid.

The idiocy I read on this website is remarkable. If Republican political candidates only hired FReepers to manage their campaigns they’d be lucky to hold 10 Senate and 25 House seats.
