Jemele Hill says muted outrage over recent anti-Semitic controversies may be rooted in not wanting to undermine racial justice movement (barf)

A seeming lack of considerable outrage from Black people over recent high-profile, anti-Semitic controversies stems from the desire to not be accused of "undermining and undercutting" the current racial justice movement, journalist Jemele Hill said. "There are people who give no care about the Jewish culture, who are using DeSean Jackson, Stephen Jackson and some of the entertainers that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar mentioned as a way to undermine and try to eat at the credibility of the people who are out there fighting for justice," Hill, a staff writer at The Atlantic told CNN's Don Lemon on Thursday. Hill was responding to an op-ed written by Abdul-Jabbar that called out Hollywood and the sports world for what he said has been a lack of outrage over recent anti-Semitic remarks from members of the Black community, including Jackson, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hill said that the NBA hall of famer was not wrong in calling out a lack of outrage over anti-Semitism, but argued that the conversation is nuanced.

"We're in this moment, this very thoughtful and critical moment where we're having conversations about race, and because you have Black people who are at the center of these controversies, people worry that, OK, if I come out and I criticize Nick Cannon, that's going to be perceived as if I'm being against Black people, who in this moment are fighting for something really important," Hill said.

Video at link. So instead of being intellectually honest and consistent, and calling out bigotry NO MATTER WHERE IT COMES FROM which would go a long way to have that truly "honest dialog about race" progressives have been calling for since before I was even thought of she needs to be careful of who she criticizes, especially if they desperately deserve it. Throw the Jews under the bus because, you know, Black Lives Matter! Gotta keep up appearances, donchya know.

They can’t be racist they don’t have the systemic power structure, honestly the dictionary even recently changed the definition of what racism is.

It’s the Stalinist way.

Corporate America and The South Poverty Law Center fully support and refuse to call out the antisemitism of the BLM founders and advocates.

I’m not getting this. How does “muting outrage” over antisemitism “undermine [the] racial justice movement” ?

All of this fighting for justice crap is just that. No one has had their justice improved since the riots began. It is not about justice. It is about hate and destruction. It is nihilism, Nothing good will come of it until it is put down hard.

I think there's a much simpler explanation. I tried to locate some of the old ADL surveys without success. The most recent no longer breaks out attitudes by race or ethnicity, but I'll post a couple survey results. From 1998

Black-Jewish Relations: ADL Survey Finds Anti-Semitism High in Black Community

It appears as though 34% of the black community held rabidly antisemitic views vs 8% of whites. More moderate antisemitism, 45% vs 33%. Nearly 80% of blacks hold rabid or moderate antisemitic views. Of course the community isn't going to object to antisemitism, 21% of the black community isn't enough to set community values.

Skip forward to 2014, from the Washington Post

According this article, ADL surveys show that “approximately 12 percent of Americans hold deeply entrenched anti-Semitic views.” However, over 30% of African Americans and Latinos hold such views. Given that they are almost 30% of the population, this suggests that of the 12% of Americans who hold deeply entrenched anti-Semitic views, 9% or so are African Americans or Latinos. This means, in turn, of the 70% or so of the population that is not African American or Latino, only 3% hold deeply entrenched anti-Semitic views. Put another way, less than 5% of whites, Asians, and “others” (including Native Americans) combined hold deeply entrenched anti-Semitic views, compared to over 30% of African Americans and Latinos–or at least that’s the difference in percentages of those willing to express anti-Semitic attitudes to pollsters. Regardless, it seems odd given these numbers that Jews seem especially concerned about mostly phantom anti-Semitism emanating from white evangelical Christians, while being less concerned about anti-Semitism in core Democratic constituencies....UPDATE: A reader points me to the most recent ADL survey, from 2013, which shows a lower rate of black (22%) and Latino (36% foreign-born, 14% native-born) anti-Semitism than the article states. The 2011 data comes closer to matching the author’s assertion, but the overall figure there was not 12% but 15% overall, and 29% (not over 30%) for African Americans and 42 and 20% for foreign and native-born Latinos, respectively. The rates for whites were 8% and 9% in 2013 and 2011. So I’m not sure if the author is looking at different data, or just got his facts wrong. Nevertheless, the basic point, that “entrenched anti-Semitic views” are far more common among African Americans and Latinos than among others, still holds.

These numbers are pretty consistant year to year. Note than second generation Hismanics have far lower numbers, probably as they blend into American society. Blacks, large numbers continue to hate Jews.

My conclusion, Jew hatred is widespread in the black community, and unlike Hispanics, doesn't disappear in successive generations.

But, but... The Dems are the "Big Tent" party, so they keep getting the majority of the Jewish vote. Go figure.
