A common drug, already approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), may also be a powerful tool in fighting COVID-19, according to research published this week in Antiviral Research.
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, uses a surface spike protein to latch onto human cells and initiate infection. But heparin, a blood thinner also available in non-anticoagulant varieties, binds tightly with the surface spike protein, potentially blocking the infection from happening. This makes it a decoy, which might be introduced into the body using a nasal spray or nebulizer and run interference to lower the odds of infection. Similar decoy strategies have already shown promise in curbing other viruses, including influenza A, Zika, and dengue.
This approach could be used as an early intervention to reduce the infection among people who have tested positive, but arent yet suffering symptoms. But we also see this as part of a larger antiviral strategy, said Robert Linhardt, lead author and a professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Ultimately, we want a vaccine, but there are many ways to combat a virus, and as weve seen with HIV, with the right combination of therapies, we can control the disease until a vaccine is found.

Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Quarantine the sick. Shield the vulnerable. Free everyone else!
No mention made of other blood thinners?
Coumidin and Pradaxa come readily to mind?

Perhaps heparin will fall into the same category as HCQ did when it was found to be helpful early on. Oh wait. Thats anecdotal and Fauci told us it hadnt been scrutinized properly yet.
Lets commence the fast track trials where we overdose patients in the late stages of the disease, and see if that knocks the virus out, like we did with HCQ.
“No mention made of other blood thinners?”

Or aspirin? Maybe because the method by which they thin blood is different? Need someone who’s up on the subject.
Trump should come out for its use.
That’ll have it condemned in about 5 minutes.
Heparin is completely different chemically speaking from those drugs. Each of those drugs work on different sites in human coagulation systems. And the medication binding to covid spike protein may be quite different for each of the drugs.
In case you haven't noticed, wizards like Cuomo and Murphy have NEVER had any respect for anything President Trump has had to say.ML/NJIt's just too bad that the President didn't recommend early to send Covid patients to Nursing Homes. He might have saved a lot of lives.
One thing for sure, “Heparin” has been around a long time so it’s probably quite cheap.
Americans aren’t allowed to use effective drugs we are to wait until we cannot breathe and then call 9-11.
Only Africans, Brazilians & Indians can use effective treatments.
We are to wait and die so the NWO can bring back feudalism.
Unfortunately, heparin, coumadin and other similar drugs are used to thin the blood and have to be very carefully prescribed in order to prevent internal bleeding among other problems. I doubt there will be widespread use because there are valid reasons to not prescribe.
Now, I read a brit study report that identifies Fenofibrate as being effective against the virus. It is a cholesterol reducing drug, been around for years, few real side effects. I’ve been taking it for a number of years and have experienced zero problems with it.
Thanks.
I guess the main question in my mind is, since I have been taking Pradaxa under a Cardiologist’s care for years, does it have the same effect?
Would be good to know.
Heparin must be pretty cheap if its not considered a useful drug. They only want to mention drugs that are big profit centers for the Pharma industry. Generic drugs do not cut it.
Not enough money in "THAT" cure.....Its really that simple folks......(think of Viagra...lol )
There is an immunity out there. Young people are not getting it. Homeless people (with very compromised immune systems) are not getting it. The inhabitants of the slums in Mumbai (not a healthy place) are not getting it.
In the Spanish flu, mainly young people were affected, because older people already had some immunity from having had previous cases of the flu.
What have young people and street people had, that provides them with immunity to Covid, which older people have not had?
I think Heparin is “relatively” cheap.
Question is, is it safe for general use?
If there’s a way to combat the virus, we don’t NEED a vaccine.
Of course, they WANT it. It’s a real money maker for them and they can use people as guinea pigs.
Thanks but no thanks.
BOOM!
bttt
Ultimately, we want a vaccine, but there are many ways to combat a virus, and as weve seen with HIV, with the right combination of therapies, we can control the disease until a vaccine is found.
How long have they been working on that to no avail?
