Looks like Trump threw in the towel. Probably advised by Jared and Ivanka.

No, it was because Fauci and Gates told him to.

"A death rate at pretty much the same rate as yearly flues. "

Not true. The highest flu death toll in modern records is 60,000. The average runs about 30,000 over the same time period. Deaths from COVID approaching 150,000.

"They don’t know what to think, and there isn’t much that they can do - but a mask may help them to feel somewhat protected - and it actually MAY protect them and others to some degree, however small."

Best indicator that masks work....my Medicare Advantage provider sent out packets of masks to all their members. If insurance actuaries think they work.....they work.

I have never believed that. I don’t allow a mask to take on that much importance. It’s an expected safety measure for the time being, and nothing more. I’m not going to make a fool of myself arguing about it at the grocery store, then going viral as ‘A hostile, 81 y/o military veteran’.

As soon as I reach the parking lot, off goes the mask, in comes the fresh air.

I posted in Mid July, that my wife and I, our siblings across the land, friends from coast to coast, small business owners in person, on the phone and on the internet had discussed this dangerous mask insanity issue/level.

We decided that the Karens and the Howard Hughes were approaching dangerous levels re their increasing mask insanity.

So, most of us have ordered cheap throw away masks to wear so, not to trigger these Insane Ma$kholes. We keep the masks in our vehicles, and our wives carry a couple in their purses for them and us.

So we wear our disposable masks in stores to avoid MaskHoles like the one below!

Wear your mask, or I will eat your damn little dog while it is alive!

She is the one in the Chicago area attacked a guy for not wearing a mask and spit on him.

Since, then she has been arrested and charged with assault.

How do masks not work?

Cloth masks and surgical masks do not provide respiratory protection against virusii. They do provide protection against bacterial infection, which are larger than virusii by an order of magnitude. The weave is not tight enough to stop a virus. While on its face the argument that cloth masks stop water droplets that could carry the virus is true, it neglects to take in to account that if a virus is airborne (like the China Virus), it is not being carried aloft by water droplets. Even if they did work, only a small percentage of people wearing them are doing it properly. They have their nose hanging over the top, they remove it to talk to people, they stick their fingers in to them, etc. Now if you want to talk about an N-95 mask, or better, that's a different story. The chances of seeing someone actually wearing an N-95 mask in public is about as rare as finding a pro-life Dem or a unicorn.

Here's what I find interesting. Up until 2 weeks ago (the last time I checked), both the OSHA website and a downloadable PDF on the CDC website stated that cloth masks do not provide respiratory protection against virusii. That was the information that was publicly accessible months ago when you could extrapolate a mortality rate from 5% anywhere up about 10%. Now that the national mortality rate is down around .03-.05% the OSHA website has been changed to add the water droplet argument. I haven't checked the CDC PDF; I'd venture to guess it was recently changed, as well. Makes me wonder why at a time after the curve was flattened and the virus has been proven to not be anywhere as dangerous to a majority of the public it was changed. I'd venture to say is that is was changed to maintain the narrative and to get people to willingly submit to the government edicts that are continuing to harm the US economy and people.

I am not telling ANYONE to ‘wear a mask’.

I simply understand the concerns of elderly and ill people and their desire to have some agency in mitigating their personal risk. I don’t mind wearing a mask myself - I don’t see it as a sign of ‘slavery’ or that everyone who wears one is some kind of submissive dope. And while it isn’t going to protect everyone from every possibility, I believe it could help a little.

Go take some reading comprehension and logic classes.

My goodness! What unmitigated pomposity coupled with empty words!! You obviously have no understanding or concern about “elderly and ill people”.

Your response is remarkable in its complete lack of substance.

What precisely do you disagree with? Do you think that everyone you see wearing a mask is ‘slavish and submissive’?

Do you think people at risk should just stay home, and never go out, if wearing a mask - which they may believe gives them some protection and is the ONLY protection they have at hand - makes them look like dopes, according to the firebrands here?

Do you think that everyone should take a political stance on an issue like this, instead of individuals trying to make what sense they can out of very confusing and contradictory ‘advice’ received from the ‘news’ and health ‘experts’, and making their own, personal decisions?

"While on its face the argument that cloth masks stop water droplets that could carry the virus is true, it neglects to take in to account that if a virus is airborne (like the China Virus), it is not being carried aloft by water droplets"

Every virus particle emitted from the human body starts out as a water (actually saline) drop. This is the point where the efficiency of masks (even cloth) is at a maximum.

As the saline drops travel, water begins to evaporate..BUT all the accompanying salt and organics do not, so any particle is NEVER a bare virus. It is ALWAYS embedded in a solid particle whose size is much larger than a bare virus.

Masks are LESS effective for those particles, but not totally ineffective.

Anybody who quotes the size of a virus particle as "the reason masks don't work" is simply propagandizing.

I think we live in the land of the free.

I think people - in general, including the elderly and the ill - have their own thoughts on the effectiveness of masks.

I don’t think you or anyone else can speak for any group of people, regardless of your good intentions.

I think there is such a thing as personal responsibility, and I think your idea of personal responsibility has no bearing on what someone else accepts as personal responsibility.

I think if you want to wear a mask, that should be your choice, and if they are so effective, then you shouldn’t worry about anyone without one.

Helen, if you go back and read everything I’ve posted on this thread, I doubt we disagree about much at all.

I am against the notion that ‘Wearing a Mask is A Sign of Slavery and Submission’. (And I don’t take my ‘news’ from Alex Jones.)

I think the title of the thread, and the premise behind it being posted, is insulting to many people who are just trying to navigate their ways through this morass.

Don’t write about how small the virus is. That is the misinformation I do not want here. You know very well that the virus is only transported out of the infected respiratory system through water droplets. Such droplets can’t go through the fiber structures and the electrostatic attraction in masks.

" Makes me wonder why at a time after the curve was flattened and the virus has been proven to not be anywhere as dangerous to a majority of the public it was changed."

President Trump at his coronavirus press conference, today:

"By understanding these risk profiles and learning how to treat the disease, we’ve been able to greatly reduce mortality in the United States. In fact, we’ll show you a chart and how well we do compared to the rest of the world. We have several treatments already available that significantly reduce the severity and duration of the disease, including remdesivir, which has been very successful and a widely available steroid treatment. And we have many more happening and coming out."

"We’ve learned best practices for treatment of the virus at every stage and have shared these findings with medical providers, and we’ve shared them all over the world. The relationship with other countries has been very strong. We’re all working together. This includes ensuring all hospitals are aware of the importance of different approaches to oxygen treatment, including high-flow oxygen, the importance of steroid treatment for those on ventilators."

The curve went down and then went back up. How do you explain the increase?

1) these are cases not deaths, even though deaths lag, they are not rising as fast as new cases-even backing it to the new cases 6-8 weeks ago. Yesterday there were 545 new deaths. 7 day average (because they don’t report many on Sat or Sunday) is still not rising to the increase 6-8 weeks ago. We are testing almost 1 million every two days. int h past this is how we got heard immunity.

2) If you look at the cities or counties with with ongoing protest you will find a correlation between new cases. e.g. In CA LA County is about 3 x times the population of next door Orange County Population. But it has 10x the number of new cases that orange County does.
LA County is over 60% people of color and tens of thousands have been out protesting, masks or not masks-just saw one Saturday.

3) You can’t have 8 million people, many without masks, making contact, out protesting and not expect a rise in cases. When a thousand health care workers signed a petition saying that despite virus the protest must go on, it made
mute any other references to wear masks and contain it. This sanctioning of protest sent the clear message that if protesting is ok then other things must be ok.

I can tell you did not understand what President Trump was saying today. If you reread what I sent you, you would understand that the daily deaths have been reduced significantly because of the greater understanding of the virus, how to care for the patients and the new treatments (remdesivir and a new steroid--dexamethasone). You got the reason for the increase correct. That has hardly been mentioned by the media--Fox included.
