AUSTIN Conservative firebrand and former Florida congressman Allen West will lead the Texas Republican Party into the 2020 election, after ousting the current chairman early Monday during a convention marred by technical difficulties.
He vowed to use his post to push back against Democrats progressive socialism.
I am sick and tired of Republicans being on their heels, being on the defense, always being reactionary with a party that as we see right now-- they dont stand up for the rule of law, they stand for rule of the mob, he said during a victory lap on conservative media.
The retired Army lieutenant colonel was propelled into Congress for a single term amid a tea party wave in 2010, but lost his reelection bid in a staggeringly costly race in which he spent $17 million. The Democrat who defeated him called him a right-wing extremist and spent less than a quarter of that.

West handily out-raised Dickey in the contest, raking in over $130,000 within the last six months, according to reports filed with the state ethics commission. Dickey raised about $30,000.
The ouster comes after a strained convention that was shifted online at the 11th hour, after Houstons Democratic mayor barred an in-person event and courts rejected the partys effort to overturn that amid the coronavirus epidemic. Technical difficulties plagued the event, pushing delegates to postpone unfinished business.
In a virtual event Monday, Dickey handed off the convention gavel to West.

From what I’ve heard Dickey was abysmal.
Who the hell is dragging their feet? Sheeeesh!
He needs to run for governor tired of our stupid current governor and his mask mandates
Great news!
“CONGRATS TO LT COL ALLEN WEST!! “
And Thank God for his recovery from the recent motorcycle accident (that wasn’t his fault!).
The Colonel was my congress rep a few years ago. He was screwed in his re-election bid by a rabid democrat super of elections when she miraculously discovered about 4000 Extra votes for the creep that stole the election.
West is a very fine man, God speed Colonel.
Qoq! Grteat news! Do it, Colonel!
Yeah...Gov Abbott has now managed to tee off the libs AND his own base. Not a good strategy.
This isn’t good, either...just read this, on another forum, about POTUS’ response to COVID....
...The president got bored with it, David Carney, an adviser to the Texas governor, Greg Abbott, a Republican, said of the pandemic. He noted that Abbott directs his requests to Pence, with whom he speaks two to three times a week....
Here is David Carney’s bio...
David M. Carney is a principal in Norway Hill Associates (NHA); a political campaign and issue management firm based in New Hampshire. NHA provides long-range strategic planning and short-term project management to political campaigns with experience in all 50 states.
Carney served as the White House Director of Political Affairs for George H.W. Bush. He has been involved in Texas politics since the early 1990s when, working for the NRSC under Phil Gramm, he oversaw the special election victory of Kay Bailey Hutchinson to the United States Senate. Since 1997 he has served as the principal general consultant to both Rick Perry and current TX Governor Greg Abbott.

And, Carney is all for the mask mandate :-(
Excellent. We need this kind of Republican activism nationwide. Rolling over is the worst thing Republicans do.
How dirty is Texas politics? Check out Lyndon Johnson, Box 13, and the Duke of Duval.
But I hear he had a purty mouth.
FL RINOs screwed him, too.
Texas is fortunate that Allen West will be our State chairman. A good man, alerting us to fast approaching Socialism long before any other sounding the alarm. Full confidence in this man that he will do one heck of a job.
GO GET ‘EM, ALLEN!
The Never Trumpers are alive and well and gunking up the works.
great news! Thanks for posting.
Excellent!
No. Cruz has proven a serial embarrassment as a campaigner and his last campaign was crap.
Any relation to Adam West? The Batmobile could be useful.
The fact that the Texas GOP lets many offices and judgeships run unopposed should have gotten this guy and his buds tossed long ago.
