Petition Urges Trader Joe’s to Get Rid of ‘Racist Branding’

Trader Joe’s is being urged to follow the example of other national food companies and rebrand products that critics say perpetuate racial stereotypes.

An online petition is asking the company to “remove racist branding and packaging from its stores,” including international food items carrying the names Trader Ming’s, Trader José and Trader Giotto’s. Those products and others reflect “a narrative of exoticism that perpetuates harmful stereotypes,” according to the petition, which on Sunday had been signed by more than 1,500 people.

“They’re racist because they exoticize other cultures, present ‘Joe’ as this default normal, and then the other characters — such as Thai Joe, Trader José, Trader Joe San — falling outside of it,” said Briones Bedell, 17, who started the petition.

A Trader Joe’s spokeswoman said in a statement that the company had previously decided to get rid of the names and to rebrand its international foods with the Trader Joe’s name.

I initially liked Trader Joe’s then i noticed any product they carried of a different brand, not long after Trader Joe’s would have similar item and they no longer carried the other brand. They basically copied stuff.

Most of their products are high sodium or sugars. I have not chosen to spend money there in many years. Was given a giftcard for their store so I did use that.

I wonder how much this whole thing is just a prank that Trader Joe’s has already swallowed and will rebrand/redesign packaging for?

As I say “she” targets their very existence and concept.

AND “she” has a new facebook page that launched the same time as “her” CHANGE.org profile and “she” has 1 friend and has only used the page to promote articles about her petition which only now (after 2 weeks and recent media hype) has under 2,000 signatures.

No comments on her page in support of her idiocy, just people saying she’s nuts.

Remove “Trader Giotto’s” from your petition. Italians aren’t a “race” and they aren’t “non-Western peoples”. They don’t want to be part of your dumb protest.

Look at her language. She has been heavily indoctrinated by people who have a purpose for useful idiots like her. In the years I have spent on FR, I have stratified the Left as described below. Unfortunately, she is already populating the second out of the three classes of Leftists:

1. Good-Hearted Liberals
   • They don’t think about issues much further than the emotional part. Not all of them are bad or crazy, many are just ill-informed and/or slaves to their emotions. They trust the news.
   • You can often talk to these people, they may live next door to you or are in the next office over. They may believe in diversity, homosexuality, and things like Black Lives Matter, and they may go to churches that support those same things.
   • They buy into these things even though they may otherwise be intelligent, because they largely accept what has been spoon fed to them. Some may change their minds and stop being a Leftist due to current outrageous leftist handling of an issue, or they may have life circumstances that make them change. Sometimes it is simply going out into the working world and having to buy your own food and toilet paper.
   • I have some casual acquaintances and people I work with, I have been able to talk politics with them on occasion, and they know where I am coming from even if they don’t agree. These people are often incidental useful idiots.

2. Leftist Foot Soldiers
   • These are the true believers, the foot soldiers of Marxism, the Marxist Cannon Fodder. These are people you cannot talk to. I just avoid them. I don’t bother to engage them or debate issues with them. These are almost always the people on the other side of the protest barrier. I have had some exposure since 2004 with these people from demonstrating with the DC Chapter outside Walter Reed for all those years, and I despise and detest them. I feel the same way about them that John Belushi felt about Illinois Nazis" in the movie "The Blues Brothers".
   • These are the Code Pink, Move On, LGBTQRXZ, SJW, Black Lives Matter people. These people actually believe that Marxist crap. They are the people with fevered faces, spittle on their lips, chanting the stupid slogans “Hey, hey, ho, ho, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah” as if they are too stupid to make up any new chants from the Sixties. Their cars have 12 bumper stickers on the back, and sometimes the sides and the front, with “Question Authority”, “Impeach Trump” “Diversity” (with all the symbols) No Blood For Oil, and so on. These people suck. I have never met a single one in my entire life I thought had more value than a warm cup of spit, and even then.
   • I avoid them. These are the REAL useful idiots.

3. The Evil Ones
   • These are the people we refer to as both Foreign and Domestic Enemies of the United States.
   • These people are enemies. They know what they are all about, and they know you know it (if you are one of us) They aren’t about equality or any other fashionable SJW issue, but play along as if they care about those things...which they don’t
   • They are all about being grifters of other people’s money, having their hands directly on the levers of power, and exercising it with prejudice.
   • These people are the ones who DO make it to the privileged power set when they take power, and they have no qualms about putting those people in any other category but them up against a wall...particularly the 2nd group listed above (The Leftist Foot Soldiers) who could become dangerous to them.

Not much hope for her. She is likely going to go to college with a degree in [Insert Stupidity Based Subject Here] Studies. She is lost, probably until later in life if at all. She is going to have no family, and likely will fall into some LGBQT thing that will really put the kibosh on her future happiness.

I hold out hope for some. David Horowitz is a good example of someone who was fully invested and made it out. One can always hope, but in her case, it is going to be a dim hope.

This is what used to be called "whitewashing".

It is very evident if you read the old (pre-1960) children's books put out by the Stratemeyer Syndicate.

The the books were originally sprinkled with Blacks, American Indians, Jews, Orientals, Hispanics, Italians and Eastern Europeans. In the early sixties they decided that these portrayal of these citizens was "racist". While they probably were a bit what happened next was a pogrom that any Czar would have been proud to set his name to. Since they were rewriting the books to shorten them from 25 chapters to 20 why not just remove those troublesome minorities. Which is what happened.

Trader Joe should respond that they refuse to whitewash their store and products. That anyone who demands they do so are being racist.

Before that she didn’t exist. And she doesn’t have many friends (1 on facebook, 28 on twitter).

It appears that she may be a fraud since this is her only issue. She only posts articles about her protest. And it wasn’t until the NYTimes piece that it got ANY traction weeks later.
