The LA Times is no longer going to say that looters are looting.
Its newly updated style guide warns:
Looting is a crime that occurs only during a state of emergency (in any jurisdiction: state, county, city, etc.). Do not use it as a broad label or term for protest, burglary, theft or chaos. Because of the racial connotation and history of the word, use terms like looting or looters only in the context of criminal proceedings. Unless a story is specifically about looting or those charged with the crime, looting or its derivations (looted, looters) should not be used in the story, display type (headline, captions, pull quotes, etc.), SEO type and headlines, story description, URL, social share lines, tweets or Facebook posts.

If they can riot, why cant we rally?
If they can loot, why cant we shop?
If they can burn, why cant we earn?
If they can slay, why cant we pray?
If they can throw Molotov cocktails,
why cant we throw cocktail parties?...
Words like "looting," "thugs" and "animals" have outlived their usefulness.
So, the LA Times thinks it shouldn’t report looting unless there actually is looting occurring.
When the non looting looters come for the press, will anybody be around to save them? Maybe more importantly, will anybody even want to save the lousy propagandists?
The idiot who wrote this trash should visit the dictionary.
There are several examples given and all of them have to do with UNLAWFUL taking.
The black racists or the white racists are looting? Pls clarify?
The left has looted the mass media of all integrity.
See my tagline.
“Undocumented property transfer.”
OK, you got me. I thought this was satire.
Please do not use the word, journalism when describing the LA Times. It would be highly inaccurate and misleading to do so.
Just an advance on reparations!
"steal goods from (a place), typically during a war or riot.
"police confronted the rioters who were looting shops"
The action is fine, the word however is unacceptable.
Here are some good synonyms, but probably none of them are sanitized enough.

It's clear they haven't changed ... the LA Times is racist to its core.
However, found a workable synonym called, "plunder".

'You don't grasp the beauty of the destruction of words. Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?'...
'Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. Already, in the Eleventh Edition, we're not far from that point. But the process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for committing thoughtcrime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect. Newspeak is Ingsoc and Ingsoc is Newspeak,' he added with a sort of mystical satisfaction. 'Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?'
