>>Obviously people wearing masks are getting covid anyway. Probably though hands and eyes.

Wearing masks does not protect the wearing from others (well, very much). It DOES protect others from those with COVID-19. I wear my mask in public as sign of respect for others. Someone not wearing a mask in a store or what have you is telling everyone to f off and die (maybe literally).

Unless and until we have visible mood rings that tell us whether a person is infected (many get it without signs), the only proper thing to do is insist everyone wear masks to keep them from spreading it TO OTHERS.

Even this moment, no matter how good you feel, you could very well have it. And even if you get tested and it is negative, you could get it 10 minutes later from some self-important yahoo in Home Depot who thinks he is more important than you (or worse, start spouting off about “his Constitutional rights which is, of course, rubbish”).

So, I’m kind of in the middle on the whole mask thing.

There’s reason to believe that they should work as “source control”, which is basically the point you raise. There’s very little evidence for this, but it seems logical that stopping non-aerosolized virus particles could have only a positive effect, and at a modest cost. So, I figure, why not give it a try?

On the other hand, lots of people here in Cali have adopted some strong magical thinking about masks. They wear them while driving alone in their own cars. They wear them outside in the sun while running or walking. They become the “mask police” and berate anyone who doesn’t conform. None of this makes any sense.

Would be great if the theory bears out in practice, as we need to get the country back to work NOW, not in some magical futre.

Next you’ll be giving up your 2A rights for the good of others.

I will not give up my rights to virtue signal altruism

Which is utterly meaningless because you wouldn't be contagious until the virus incubated which takes five days on average. Stop sreading such ignorant BS.

The rights bestowed on him (and all men) by His Creator? Those rights? Rubbish? Words fail.

Watch how many people are wearing masks with exhale valves. I just saw another one on twitter five minutes ago, attacking others for not wearing a mask! Masks with exhale valves do nothing to protect others. I see it all the time, I understand because I’ve worn fit tested masks as PPE. I’ve seen reporters wearing masks with exhale valves in the WH press briefing room nearly every time.

People wear masks with exhale valves, they wear them under their nose, their glasses fog up - meaning the mask is leaking when they exhale, they touch the masks, take them off to talk, eat, and attack people not wearing masks. There are videos all over twitter showing it. And I’ve never seen a video where someone not wearing a mask is attacking a mask wearer. It’s always been the mask wearer attacking others.

It’s almost like the mask mandate is a test to see how easily we will obey without thinking. And it makes us fight each other. The whole covid thing has that feel to me.

"A COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) particle is 0.125 micrometers (μm); influenza virus size is 0.08 – 0.12 μm"

"Virus-laden small (<5 μm) aerosolized droplets can remain in the air for at least 3 hours and travel long distances."

"All of the cloth masks and materials had near zero efficiency at 0.3 µm, a particle size that easily penetrates into the lungs."

"Conclusion: Wearing masks will not reduce SARS-CoV-2."

"Cloth masks will be ineffective at preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, whether worn as source control or as personal protective equipment (PPE)."
