Donald Trump Reacts to Grassroots Campaign Against H-1B Program
Breitbart ^ | 17 Jul 2020 | NEIL MUNRO

Posted on 07/18/2020 12:06:31 PM PDT by NobleFree

President Donald Trump distanced himself late Thursday night from Jeff Lyash, his appointee running the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), who is now using H-1B outsourcing to discard American professionals even as Trump tries to revive his poll numbers.

Another one of many Fake T.V. Ads, this one about the Tennessee Valley Authority, which for years has paid its top executive a ridiculous FORTUNE. Not run by the U.S., but I have long been fighting that crazy “salary” & its polices. Strange ad paid for (?) by “U.S. Tech Workers”.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 17, 2020

The TVA is a government-created corporation, which operates a network of power stations and dams created during the 1930s depression. The top executive is picked by the president and is reportedly paid $8 million. The executive’s contract and salary are approved by a board. For many years, the low-profile, high-salary job has been a lucrative opportunity for politically connected people.

Trump was likely reacting to this hard-hitting ad from the U.S. Tech Worker’s group, an advocacy group that champions American tech workers:

Tennessee Valley Authority was created to spur the Tennessee Valley economy. But TVA is outsourcing jobs to French, Irish, & Canadian companies. Keep jobs in the Valley. pic.twitter.com/Dh0HbLvh1V

— U.S. Tech Workers (@USTechWorkers) July 15, 2020

The grassroots group responded to Trump by reminding him of his 2017 promise to “Buy American, Hire American”:

Sticks and stones … but you ran on America First: Buy American HIRE American. We hired you to protect American jobs. There’s 200 American tech workers about to lose their jobs at the TVA & only you can stop that from happening. No other president would save these jobs. […]

If the Antifa brats weren’t taught to be “revolutionaries”, perhaps the US would have a greater tech pool.

Abortion and serious failures in PE are the primary facilitators of the immigration/outsourcing dilemmas.

The irony in many cases is the greater regard foreign labor has for the US — a greater appreciation than too many US citizens.

We have no shortage of tech workers:

Nor could work visas solve any such shortage:

Trump needs to understand the the nation is more than its economy.

The nation is a family writ large.

The giving of its jobs away to foreigners is a destructive action against its own family.

Hey I have a brilliant idea. It is just gorgeous. We bring all the H1B workers into the country. Pay them in their currency and then give all the workers in America who lost their jobs to these leeches and parasites 7500 USD per month. But why the heck stop at 7500 why not 10K or 20K or some other ungodly amount then the only job Americans can do is become a politician for life. And since everyone is now a politician for life we all get an equal vote and the leeches and parasites get none. Nor do they get any pathway to citizenship. To get citizenship as a foreign born soul, you must have never worked in the United States nor have gone to school here. Then you must show a bank account with 500,000 USD in it and have a nominal income of over 20K per month from anywhere but the US. This source has to continue while living here and until you become a citizen. You cannot work in the US while waiting for your citizenship. /s

I worked 23 years as an SAP Functional Analyst/Consultant.

You don’t understand the issue.

There is not a ‘shortage’. Corporate America has a perceived dependency on tech labor as it is a drug much like artificially low interest rates.

Like capital, when labor is artificially flooded, it causes labor rates to go down like what has happened in real income for workers in the IT industry.

Once the companies get dependent, they start to ALLOCATE not only artificially cheap capital, but also artificially cheap labor.

What ends up is not a proper prioritizing of labor resources and capital, but an oversubsidizing of many tech projects that really should have not been pursued due to to low a return on investment.

Corporate America REALLY thinks they MUST have slave cheap labor in their IT depts. (plus all the other industries that use H1-B) to survive because they are pursuing so many questionable projects when really they are wasting money and then complaining about a non-existent labor shortage.

If the H1-B program ended tomorrow, and the existing H1-B visa workers were laid off and they returned to mostly India but some other countries, then there would be BETTER decision-making and far less corruption and kickback arrangments, etc. that are creating lots of waste. I would come out of retirement to train US citizens on the areas of SAP I have experience with and we would fill the labor gap. Yes, the US worker would be paid more, but the labor cost would be allowed to settle and be a TRUE cost of labor as opposed to a subsidized system of mis-allocation of precious labor.

Before I retired, we had several US citizens that would have made excellent SAP Functional Business Analysts. However, they never got the chance due to Indians via H1-B. Now they talk about diversity in their IT group but it is silly because everybody knows it is an Indian/Hindu/H1-B shop and diversity goes WAY DOWN with H1-B.

America First.

Always.

If these companies need high tech employees then they should be required to sponsor American students right after high school, in fact they should recruit seniors and provide their college education in return for employment contracts.

No more cheap labor from outside our country.

>> You don’t understand the issue.

Definitely aware of the outsourcing and hiring of cheaper, temporary labor. I’m also well aware of oversees Blue Chip co-locations.

I’ve worked directly with non-US techies in firmware, today’s Cloud, and virtually every related technology in between.

To say the availability of skilled domestic IT personnel was readily available over the last 20 years is a fallacy. The reason many don’t agree is likely related to their inability to discern competent IT personnel.

His record is as the ONLY person who listened on TPP and the only person to listen on China. That still beats Biden.

Thanks for the links

Labor Shortage is a supply & demand concept. If the demand for a certain skill at max rate exceeds the supply, that is definitively a shortage. To argue that domestic skills at a higher rate is not a justified factor when staffing for certain market offerings, is to say that non-invested parties have the authority to determine how a private operation should structure its employment.

I’m not making the case for sustaining foreign labor at the expense of the domestic good, but I’m comfortable pointing out the shortage of skilled labor in the IT sector since the late 90s.

This debate reminds me of how Japan gave US auto makers a well-deserved kick in the ass. Not to blame the poorly educated young adults entertaining the IT workforce, but the foreign IT pool certainly gave the domestic businesses and educators something to think about.

In recent years, things have certainly improved on the domestic IT resource front. I attribute the growth to the attraction of social media and smart devices — tech that fostered an independent, self-motivating interest with today’s youth. The educators were typically 10 years behind.

“Max rate” is NOT a supply and demand concept. Who sets this alleged “max rate”?

Yeah, I call those guys Script Kiddies.

They don't know JACK about SQL tuning and large-volume transactions.

I've seen their work. I've turned their 30-hour-running nightmares into things that execute in 0.17 seconds.

Nonsense on stilts - if an employer sets a “max rate” then by definition above that rate demand is ZERO so there is no shortage.
