President Donald Trumps drift towards an endorsement of DACA and pro-immigration policies threatens his reelection campaign, says Steven Levy, the former top executive leader of Suffolk County in New York.
It is not worth abandoning your base over your this, Levy said in an interview with Breitbart News. Youre not going to get many votes out of this, he added.
How do you justify importing more workers when a good portion of your workers are sitting at home? asked Levy, who was twice elected as chief executive of New Yorks Suffolk County, with 1.5 million residents. It is absurd [and] if we dont push back, hell do it.
It isnt to say were not grateful for him being the best fighter on the federal level on illegals, but he cant give up now when he has come so far, said Levy, who won 96 percent of the Long Island districts vote for his 2008 to 2012 term.

Ok, so I have to decide whose political instinct to trust; President Trumps, or the former top executive leader of Suffolk County in New York.?
Hmmm...
IMO, Trump is fundamentally an open borders kind of guy.
What a pile of dog crap.
President Trump is, and always has been, an America First President, but hes not stupid.
The Lefts best hope of upending the President’s America First agenda would be to obtain disturbing video footage of tens of thousands of illegals being forcibly deported by Trump - along with nonstop fake news comparisons to Jews being loaded onto cattle cars by the Nazis - to pull on the heartstrings of the American people.
This bleeding heart shit is as old as the hills, and President Trump is not nearly dumb enough to get baited into ordering mass deportations - that would be the Lefts political dream come true.
There will be no mass deportations - certainly not the grown-up children of illegals who have no other home to return to - because President Trumps parents didnt raise a fool.
But you already knew all that.
[This bleeding heart shit is as old as the hills, and President Trump is not nearly dumb enough to get baited into ordering mass deportations]
This is a false choice.
The false choice I thought you were presenting was - either you must demand the forced deportation of 20 or 30 million illegals, or you are for [gasp!!!] amnesty.
If you werent saying that, then Ill apologize for my overreaction and back off.
However, I dont agree with you at all that Trump is a NY liberal constrained by the need to please his conservative base.
He is a true conservative (albeit a born-again version in some regards) who truly believes in the conservative causes that he champions, especially putting American jobs first.
Regarding illegals - especially those who have been here most of their lives - perhaps his heart isnt in driving them out for the same reason my heart isnt in it: the damage is done. Too much time has gone by.
Build the wall - reform the system to stem further bleeding. If you can incentivize some recent crossers to give up and go home, I certainly support that.
But this life-long conservative does not wish President Trump to sacrifice his Presidency on the alter of correcting decades old mistakes which cant be corrected anyway. Stop the current bleeding.
