Will President Trump endorse in the Kansas Senate primary? Republicans should hope so
KC Star ^ | 7/18/20 | Michael Ryan

If any Republican voters are on the fence about Kansas’ crowded U.S. Senate race, they need to know this:

There are largely two voting blocs backing Kris Kobach in the GOP primary Aug. 4. One is patriotic, often rural conservatives who love Kobach’s fiery stance on illegal immigration, notwithstanding his near-zero success rate on the issue.

The other is Democrats.

Ahem, Mr. President. Is the White House watching all this?

It’s no secret that Kansas Democrats want Kobach to win the nomination. Of the GOP candidates who have a shot at the nomination, Kobach looks to be the most beatable in November, having not only lost the 2018 gubernatorial race to Democrat Laura Kelly but also having lost repeatedly in court on immigration, not to mention in the court of public opinion.

But now, the Democrats’ dream candidate is an open secret — with national headlines about a Democratic-linked super PAC called Sunflower State that has been airing an ad that appears to attack Kobach but really goes after his top rival in the race, U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall.

Generally I don't like it when Trump gets involved in primaries but assuming they can get him not to endorse Kobach then it might make a difference here. Otherwise if Kobach is the nominee then the seat has to be considered a tossup.

And it's never been a secret who the Democrats want to run against. They got Kobach the nomination over Colyer for governor. The fact that they want him to be the Republican senate candidate is no mystery.

The only thing I’ll say is that Kobach is a good man who has a heck of a time winning a state wide election.

I don’t think Trump will ever endorse a demonstrated loser in a GOP primary. Notice what happened in the Alabama primary: Trump absolutely did not want Sessions to win, but he waited until the polls started showing Tuberville with a large lead before endorsing him.

Kobach is poison in eastern Kansas - Johnson, Wyandotte, and Douglas Counties. He always has been. He lost in Topeka and Wichita in 2018 as well so he's going to have problems getting votes where most of the votes lie.

So far, Trump has gotten some crappy advice on whom to endorse (McConnell/McCarthy anyone?) thus, his picks on some losers because the establishment doesn’t want to turn their house & senate over to those who will really kick out the Swamp (read Trump) out of their kingdom they’ve devised for themselves.

The fact that the KC Star, Topeka Capitol Journal and every “newspaper of record” loathes and despises Kobach and his supporters has penned this and every other story on Kobach means one could have taken out the name Kobach and inserted Trump for all of the area’s readers.

The Kansas and DC swamp picked out Roger Marshall to get rid of Tim Huelscamp for John Boehner and the open borders crowd (count Koch Brothers) who wanted Tim Huelscamp out of DC, for him, means that Marshall is a candidate the DC and Kansas swamp wants and needs just like it wants and needs Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran as reliable “KS moderates.”

McConnell already informed Trump, he’d never get Kobach approved by the Senate for Trump to have on his team.

So, no Kobach through the Senate for Trump but if Kobach wins this Senate seat, McConnell will have one fewer swamp creatures on his side and Trump will have one more friend to count on to pass his bills and approve Supreme Court appointments!

Just think of Roger Marshall as another Susan Collins when it comes to a Supreme Court nominee vote!

I agree. Politically, he became damaged goods. I think it was because the left was able to associate him with Brownback.

Two votes here for Kobach. Marshal is a weasel and that insults weasels.
