The county Board of Education in Orange County, Calif., on Monday voted to approve school reopening recommendations that do not require masks for students or social distancing in schools.
In a 4-1 vote, the board approved recommendations that include frequent handwashing, daily temperature checks and nightly disinfection of facilities and vehicles, but did not include mandatory masks for students, the Los Angeles Times reported.
K-12 children represent the lowest-risk cohort for Covid-19. Because of that fact, social distancing of children and reduced census classrooms is not necessary and therefore not recommended, the boards recommendations reads. Requiring children to wear masks during school is not only difficult if not impossible to implement but not based on science. It may even be harmful and is therefore not recommended.
Although children are at lower risk of hospitalization from the virus, people at any age with underlying conditions are at higher risk for the virus. About six million children in the U.S. have asthma, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The board gave individual districts broad discretion in their reopening plans. Though it is important that we reopen our schools, some parents and some employees may reasonably question their own fitness for a fall return, the recommendations state. We understand that multigenerational families, for instance, or families in which children or adults live with maladies that make them more vulnerable might feel safe at home. Its important that school districts accommodate these choices to the best of their ability.
Los Angeles and San Diegos school districts have announced they will not reopen in the fall. Although Orange County shifted leftward in the 2016 and 2018 elections, it was for decades known as one of the most conservative parts of the state, and has been an epicenter of opposition to mask mandates in California, according to the newspaper.
Nichole Quick, the countys chief health officer, resigned in June, citing death threats after she issued an order requiring masks in public, the Orange County Register reported.
No break in taxes for schools being closed since March
Nothing must interfere with the complete lockdown of the nation in the lead up to the November presidential election. Trick or treating will likely be outlawed in California, all to try to boost the numbers.
If teachers won’t teach, fire them, do not pay them.
If I were a teacher in that district I would take a look at the BCG shot data coming out of countries like India and Australia. I wish we could get that shot here. But if I were working there Id consider hopping over the border to Mexico and getting that shot.
Don't kids wear masks for that?
Anyway an order like that would NOT be enforced, it would be symbolic.
Governor may have to bulldoze the schools.
What is good for children is bad for public school teachers.
Yesterday, in Tampa, with temperatures in the high 90’s and humidity set to “intolerable,” people outside, by themselves, with no one around for hundreds of feet...were wearing masks.
A woman manning the gas station at Costco had to check my credit card. Wearing a mask, she laid down an alcohol wipe and backed up six feet. She had me lay my card on it and back up six feet. She took my card and then we reversed the procedure. I had to go stand in front of my truck while she used her card to activate the pump. She was dead serious about this and acted like if I didn’t do it she would die. She also seemed really upset, possibly because I was not wearing a mask.
Years ago, while reading about the 1918 flu, there was an incident reported where someone told another man on public transport to put on a mask. The man refused. The first man drew his gun and shot the other man dead.
I think that woman at the pumps would have happily shot me dead. Certainly, her eyes were trying to kill me.
Dems and the media hate when this happens.
Instead of calling for public schools to reopen, Republicans should demand that teachers and staff be furloughed and school taxes be ended until public schools can open again. Then parents can make alternate arrangements for their kids.
Where I live we pump our own gas, been that way for decades.
Simple solution.
Yes, people are scared again. Had a two week break in reporting COVID for BLM.
while that would appeal to me personally Trump has made the decision that calling for opening schools is his best political move.
Dems have decided that calling for them to remain closed and blaming Trump for it is their best move
the orange county board of ed does not have rein over the cities school districts, each school district will be setting policy, its just a political vote
Nope free housing for illegals.

What happens if someone sues the school district when a school bus driver gets ill from Covid? Does the school district have immunity from lawsuits?
“Where I live we pump our own gas, been that way for decades.”
We pump our own gas too. But the pump was not reading my card.
He’d order that even if they were full of kids and staff.
It’s great to be king.
No the individual school districts can still and do get sued
I’m curious why she had to check your card?
