Years ago, in our town we experienced a shock.
The local Bishop had a friend who managed the books for YEARs and was NEVER audited. No sexual ties, just good friends.
Imagine the shock when the man (married) dropped dead and the Catholics found out the guy had embezzled millions. I don’t think they ever got the money back, as the wife was fighting it.
I never tracked the complete story, just remember thinking the Catholics at the time were not being good stewards as someone over the years should have been looking for annual audits.
