A 1-year-old boy was shot to death overnight near a playground in Brooklyn.
Police said the child was sitting in a stroller with a group of people having a barbecue when gunfire erupted.
The boy was identified as 1-year-old Davell Gardner Jr.
Mayor Bill de Blasio held a moment of silence during Mondays press briefing and said he was heartbroken over the childs death.
Weve got to take resolve out of every situation like this. We can never give up, he said. We can never give up on our children, we can never give up on our families, we can never give up on our neighborhoods no matter how tough it seems.
It means the whole community has to be involved, he added. Its never just about police. It has to be community and police together.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday outside Raymond Bush Playground on Madison Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Sources tell CBS2 police believe two men ambushed the victims and fired more than 20 rounds.
Police said the 1-year-old was shot in the stomach and died at the hospital.
Three adults were also wounded, but were expected to survive.
You aint not gangsta. You a punk. You a punk, with a gun. You think is going to make you a man, but it aint, resident Erica Ford said.
This whole block should be out here, because veryone knows whos doing what. They need to knock on those doors and say, listen, if you dont do something about it, we are, said Aaron Thomas of St. Albans, Queens.
The family of the 1-year-old lives in a shelter on Chester Street in Bed-Stuy. Throughout the day they sat out in front, grieving, hurt, and still trying to process what happened.
Community advocate Tony Herbert said he wants to see the NYPDs Anti-Crime Unit back on the streets.
It was another violent weekend in New York City with 22 shootings and 28 victims.
Two hours earlier and nearly two miles away, another child was shot Sunday in Crown Heights.
Police said the 12-year-old boy was sitting in front of a home near Ralph Avenue and Prospect Place.
He was hospitalized in stable condition.
Now you're just showing off.
“HELL NO; they voted themselves into a CRAP HOLE, let them wallow in their own SH!T.”
You confuse your “they” as everyone in New York, ignoring that there is a voting minority in New York that never voted for any of the current NYC leaders or representatives. Telling them to stay in New York is like telling me I have to stay in New Jersey though, again, I am in the minority here that does not support any of the state political leaders.
No. GOOD people should get out of places where effectively their votes don’t count.
P.S. There was a protest by 400+ people in one part of Brooklyn a few days ago. They were protesting IN SUPPORT of their police. I would tell them to just leave NYC; they are overwhelmed by the Left there.
Before the Fake News, you had the Fake Jews.
