A phenomenon described as “ borrowing deaths from the future”

by killing patients that probably would have died from other causes within 6 months

i treat these patients. covid is not a blood disease. when someone has severe ARDS the only choice is a ventilator. The death rate is approximately 35% same as any for ARDS if any other cause. Period

Ok mom
I guess your treatment facility doesnt refer patients for ECMO or monitor them for silent hypoxia because they have no resp symptoms but their blood cells are not carrying oxygen and leading to organ damage, or administer anticoagulants because it is blood clots that are destroying the lungs and other organs.

Was she treated right away with known medicine or did the doctor/democrats scoff at hydroxychloroquine and zinc etc?

That is not correct. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been isolated and its genome fully mapped. All the way back on January 29, 2020, the Institut Pasteur, which is responsible for monitoring respiratory viruses in France, released the complete genetic sequence for SARS-CoV-2.

The PCR testing looks for genes that are specific to SARS-CoV-2.

They just need to put out drug treatments and cut the stupid games. Imagine if all of a sudden, politicians pushed doctors to not give out Takiflu and argue that all you needed was the flu shot? How would you feel? I would be pissed off at the government.

Wow. You see you are a complete expert. ECMO is not a solution to this issue. ECMO itself is rarely used and not successful so go with that ignorant statement

There is no reason to monitor for silent hypoxemia of it really does exist. What is the treatment rationale for this? Go ahead doc. I am listening.

“The ones you need to worry about are the ones that are less discriminary. The fact is that an illness that attacks the young is more serious to our world than one that attacks the elderly. It’s just how it works.”

Bears repeating, but no one wants a death unless it’s someone else’s problem.

Incorrect. Ventilator mortality for COVID ARDS is 35%. The same for all other ARDS. Because ARDS is ARDS and not dependent on the causative agent

Additional studies have shown the 80% and 59% numbers are crap. Getting it right is key to not spreading fear. You are dead wrong on your statement

The virus has been isolated. It has been entirely genetically mapped. Not sure I would die on that cliff my friend

Months ago cents were politicized and it was reported people did worse. Of course a couple weeks ago two studies said never mind. There is no increase in mortality with vents over ARDS or other causes
Prone ventilation has been around a long time.

I am amazed at the number of armchair Intensivists who frankly spew propaganda and never let the facts get in the way

Look pal why don’t you do more research
What is the nature of the blood disease. I will bet you a nickel you don’t know
There are studies repudiating the high vent associated mortality. Why don’t YOU do research instead of condescending to someone who treats this crap everyday
And before you tell me to do research I am an intensivist who uses ventilators every day and even on COVID patients
I assure you I am up to date with the state of the science and art in treatment of this

You are plain freaking wrong. No let’s see if you are big enough to stand down and admit it

I recognize that our brave heroes on the medical treatment frontline do not have time to sit around all day reading studies on new findings.

But hopefully if I need treatment for this, the team that manages me will be at least as current as I am, and will not be irritated by a patient who knows enough to advocate for their own interests when discussing treatment options,

if you are discussing ecmo and the like you are an idiot. Just because you read a few magazine articles does not mean you have the medical knowledge and perspective to treat critically ill patients. Your couple of magazine articles are nowhere near the volume and detail of the scientific literature that is changing daily. I repeat how many critically ill patients have you treated?

I assure you we know exactly what the state of the art is. Can you present recent data and delineate what the blood disease is? I know the answer. It appears you do not

"Yes, they include those, since the common cold gives a false positive for Covid-19."

PCR tests are near perfect for selectivity. The other four+ coronavirus types are not an issue.

...gives PCR tests for the SARS-CoV-2 virus about a 98% sensitivity and near perfect selectivity, meaning almost every active infection is detected and only in very rare cases does someone uninfected receive a positive test. PCR tests are near perfect for selectivity.

I don't have the information on antigen tests.

I notice my local left-wing news is reporting “Coronavirus case increases” does this mean they can legally include common Flu or cold cases, since they are all Coronaviruses?

Actually, flu is caused by influenza viri, not coronaviri. And of the common cold causes, four different coronaviri only account for 20-30% of colds. Most of the rest are caused by a rhinovirus, RSV, or have unknown causes.

That said, per the CDC, having common cold (coronavirus) antibodies can potentially cause you to pop hot for the Chinavirus as well.

If Biden wins the election, this will disappear faster than the Anti War protesters during GW. But if not, this will be dragged on for years to come....

Exactly! Sadly, this is becoming... "vote for Biden so you don't have to wear a mask anymore."
