Could Goya Foods be headed toward the Chick-fil-A effect, wherein the more leftists hate it, the more conservatives buy it? That may just well be the case.
Following Goya CEO Robert Unanues expressed Trump support and the Lefts subsequent threats to boycott the (Hispanic-owned) company, customers have actually been buying the product as a counter-protest. This has been described as a buy-cott.
According to Fox Business, the buy-cott began when radio host Mike Opelka encouraged people on Twitter to buy up $10 worth of Goya Food products.
My brother came up with a terrific idea and I am encouraging all to join me in purchasing $10 worth of Goya Foods products and donating them to your local food bank, Opelka tweeted. Lets push a BUY-cott, not a boycott. Lets show the #Goyaway people what compassion can do.
The tweet received over 27,000 likes, prompting many conservative commentators to promote the campaign.
Go out today and buy your Goya foods, Fox News host Mark Levin tweeted.
Most of these people fronting about a #GOYABOYCOTT either dont use Goya Foods anyways [a]nd most of the ones who do will cave by #NocheBuena, tweeted Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
On Saturday, a GoFundMe was launched to raise money to feed the hungry using Goya Food products; it has since amassed over $43,000 dollars.
Im not surprised we have raised so much because people are tired of having to walk on eggshells in political discourse, Casey Harper, who started the GoFundMe, told FOX Business. Also, Americans are fundamentally generous people, so a chance to feed the hungry and stand up to cancel culture was an easy win.
The controversy over Goya Foods erupted last week when CEO Robert Unanue said America is truly blessed to have President Trump during a Rose Garden speech about the White Houses Hispanic prosperity initiative.
Were all truly blessed to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder, he said. We have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president.
After leftists vowed to boycott his business, Unanue, who had previously worked with the Obama administration, said he will not be apologizing to the woke mob.
Youre allowed to talk good or to praise one president but youre not allowed when I was called to be part of this commission to aid in economic and educational prosperity, and you make a positive comment, all of the sudden thats not acceptable, he told Brian Kilmeade of Fox & Friends.
Im not apologizing for saying, Unanue continued. Especially if youre called by the President of the United States, youre going to say, No, Im sorry, Im busy, no thank you? I didnt say that to the Obamas and I didnt say that to President Trump.
President Trump also responded to the boycott calls by sharing an I Love Goya image that has since been circulating the web.
I love paella. Whats in the can? Do you add fresh shrimp?
Other than Goya, Campbells and Bush, who makes beans?
Its gonna be Blazing Saddles with all these beans. Lol
For many years now I have been under very strict orders from my wife to only buy black beans from Goya.
Much better than the store brand beans.
And family oriented.
To be fair I know plenty of white-trash types who are lazy as hell.
With some Hatch Green Chili and the right seasoning I can change your life. I make scratch tortilla's that compete with anyone and my Green Chili Stew is knock out. Also my Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas. Lost my wife of 47 years in 2018, remarried 4 months ago. My new wife is now a Hatch Green Chili convert. I took her on trip to NM and specifically to Hatch, NM to give her the best Mexican food in the world. No exaggeration. We brought back a burlap bag full of green chili's, roasted them and froze them. Essential Ingredient.
Goya is GOOD!
Congratulations on your marriage! Love is truly grand; but, everyone knows red chili are the only real chilies. Green chilies are second place only because they are mild enough for women and children, and maybe the occasional green-chili cheeseburger...
LOL
Let's just say we're going to eat all the Goya beans we can until Slim Pickens shouts "You've had enough!"
Red or Green? Shrug
As long as the are grown in Hatch NM.
I have both. Have frozen packages of Hatch Red Chili Sauce and I have lots of roasted Green Chili’s in the freezer.
The Mexican food in NM an CO is like no other in the world. I lived in NM for many years, traveled through Hatch every week.
I recently went back for the visit, The town has grown from 400 residents to 1600 residents, since I was last there. Hard to recognize it. The world has found it, I knew about it in 1973 when I moved to Silver City, NM.
Kroger, which for some reason make excellent pinto beans I eat nearly every day.
As a 95% vegetarian and a guy with thyroid problems despite daily pill, I need fiber.
And La Preferrida is a famous brand. Plus Our Family and other brands. Randall makes those prepared beans sold in glass jars that are one of my mainstays.
Congratulations and best wishes on your marriage.
If she tells you to drop running around online with that Free Republic crowd, tell her “Aw, except for ones like Frank Ballenger they aren’t that bad.”
I’ve got news for you — blacks from other countries and areas of the world say the same thing about American blacks.
Odd you mentioned Hatch as I just unpacked 4 jars of chile sauce two days ago.Love it.
I agree the food is wonderful-and I was just kidding with the red/green feud--I like them both, but prefer the heat.
Goya in not just Mexican but various South America and Spanish foods. It was the only place I could find Linden Flower Tea for a long time.
It is not because they are American blacks, it is because LBJ and his "Great Society" removed most black men from the family and replaced them with a gummint check.
76% of all black kids are in a gummint supported parent family, what in the hell would anyone expect.
The Doctor Ben Carsons of the world are an exception.
Thanks for the explanation. I’m native Texan, but you simply cannot find great Mexican food in Texas. It is Tex-Mex.
So, I learned to cook my own. Smile.
Honestly, I’ve been the family baker for 45 years and shared the kitchen with my wife most of my life.
I did business in Hatch. Drove through there ever week for many many years. Long before it became so well known.
There is nothing like it. It is not the variety of pepper that makes it so good. It is the soil, right temperature and plenty of water from Elephant Butte Lake. Unique place.
It has gone tourista since I moved away, but food is still the same. I know a hand full of places that are “the Best”. Don’t judge them from the building, just look at the parking lot. If it is full, that is where you want to eat.
