Alexey Komissarouk, a software engineering manager, was among those let go when San Francisco real estate startup Opendoor laid off more than 600 employees in mid-April in response to the coronavirus pandemics economic impact.
As an Israeli citizen working with an H-1B visa, Komissarouk cant receive unemployment benefits. But more crucially, under immigration rules, losing his job set a clock ticking on his time in the United States.

“Americans who lost jobs to H1-B visa holders face painful predicament”
I don’t understand the predicament.
If they loose their job, they loose their visa and must leave. They knew that from the start, it is not a surprise.
And they have had months to prepare as it was very likely they would be let go due to the Corona virus and poor economic situation.
Farm boy, you don't believe that crap for a second do you?
Feel good story of the day.
I definitely noticed that. Not sure I’ve ever seen an Israeli H1.
Horse manure. 99.9% of H-1Bs are diploma-mill fake-resume drones who can't tell their sphincter from a hole in the ground ... unless they were so trained by the American they replaced for half the salary.
Peter Leroe-Muñoz and his Silicon Valley johns are traitors to America.
